A Mother's Day Message...

I am the mother of a 32 year old son. I didn't get any gifts today, nor a card, or even an acknowledgment that today is Mother's Day. My only child is in the penitentiary because he wanted to be a Master Criminal. He is angry with me because I don't send him a letter every day and money every week.
Now, this is not a message of complaint. I will not dwell further on the things I MIGHT want that I do not have. Rather, I will be thankful for the things I DO have, and for the things I DO NOT want that I do not have.
I am thankful I don't have to worry about getting a phone call in the middle of the night telling me something horrible has happened to my son. I know he is safe enough where he is.
I am thankful that I am in reasonably good health. I don't have cancer or some other debilitating ailment, and I still have my mind.
I am thankful that I am not homeless and hungry on the street. I have a decent place to live, and I have food to eat every day.
I am thankful that my husband has a decent job. Many folks have no income at all, and I have the unique privilege of being able to stay home and go to college instead of having to work for a living.
I am thankful for my friends, not only those here on myLot, but elsewhere. I am truly blessed to have them.
I am sure there are many other things I could be thankful for as I reflect on this Mother's Day, but I need a cup of coffee.
So, what are you thankful for today?

You have such a positive attitude:) You have really made me rethink about today. I have 4 children , one who just moved out with his girlfriend who we don't like very much. He had promised that he would be here today to visit with his family and called yesterday and told me happy mothers day. I said, it's a day early but thanks. I'll see you tomorrow right? He said that he and his girlfriend decided to go to Pittsburgh and visit with her grandmother instead. I was, and am heartbroken! I have had such a crappy day today because of this.
Thanks to your discussion, I am now rethinking everything~
I am thankful for my other 3 children who went to breakfast with me. I am thankful for the many homemade cards that my 6 yr old made today. I am thankful for the love from my husband and family. I am also thankful that I read your discussion today:)

Well 'badpenny' I feel for you in your position with your son and I do hope that things dwell well for you so sit down enjoy that cup of coffee with a wish from me that you have many more happier mothers days.
I am thankful that I got up and out of bed this morning and I will be more thankful to do that for another 10 years or so. At 74 one thinks on these things so I feel that one should feel thankful for all the good mercies that God showers down on us. I'm not a particularly religious person but I do think there must be some higher being so we can be thankful too.
Anyway I've got to get out of bed tomorrow morning...I've got a doctors appointment....!!

First of all, Happy Mother's day! Like you, I am a mother too. I am very, very happy being a mother to my three children. They are God's gifts that I can touch, kiss and hug close to me anytime I want. I am thankful because they are good children. They are obedient and show gratitude for all the things we do to be able to provide their needs and to give them a good life. They are loyal children. They give me little surprises every now and then by doing chores I don't expect them to do. They study hard, do the best they can to make us proud parents whenever we visit their school. I am thankful to God for bringing my fiance into my life. I have been miserable for too long, 12 years of my life, but everything changed when he came into my life. He is a good man, an honest, faithful and loving partner. With him, there is nothing more I can ever ask for. I am also grateful to God for giving me the opportunity to be the daughter of my mother. She is the most loving, most supportive and most understanding person I have ever met in my entire life. LIkewise, I am thankful for too many other things in my life that I may not have enough words and space to express my thanks to Him for all the blessings, all the trials and all the happiness He has given me in this lifetime.

I am a mother of two teenagers. They already told me Happy Mother's Day and I told my mother the same, but at this point, we're dealing with my father because he is in the final stages of his own illness. I am not being maudlin, but honest. I am thankful though that I have both parents, my kids who weren't always with me, family that call, friends that speak, and for the many online cards I got. I cannot complain. I feel for the mothers who weren't even recognized. Years ago, I remember a lady from church; She had only one child. selfish so and so if you ask me, but anyway, he became a doctor; those people worked hard to get him there, and he didn't even have the grace or forethought to call his mother and wish her a Happy Mother's Day. I have a problem with that. I am hoping that we at MyLot get to recognize any Mother next year with a card on this day, or Father too on theirs. So folks can feel good for the sacrifices they have done. that I am thankful for.

Right at this moment, I am thankful for this discussion. I am thankful for two adult kids who turned out pretty well, and give me something to look forward to. I am thankful to have a good husband, and more than enough to eat. I am thankful for my funky extended family that I will go see. They are weird, but they are mine.

First of all let me say "Happy Mother's Day" to you. I am sorry to hear about your son. I hope that he learns from his mistakes and will be able to be around his family again as a changed person. We all make mistakes. What am I thankful for? I am thankful for waking up everyday, thankful for my family, my friends, my grandchildren, and my children. I am thankful for the Mother and Father who took me into their home and raised me as their own. I am thankful that I have a job, a roof over my head and food to eat. Many people don't understand their blessings. I have many. I am thankful that I have God who watches over me and mine. I am thankful for having had a wonderful man in my life who now resides in Heaven.

Well said, badpenny. It seems that nowadays all the adult kids want to lay the blame for their failings on the parents. I agree that most of us have much to be thankful for. We might not have our every desire, but life would be so dull if you had everything you needed.
