I've been taking medication for about a year and it has made a world of difference. I still have times when I just cry or freak out over something petty, but nothing near as bad as it was pre-medication.

I went through 8 anti-depressants before I found the one that worked for me without any side effects. I am on Wellbutrin. I started the anti-depressant with the onset of fibromyalgia. But I believe I have a chemical imbalance because I have attempted on two occasions to wean off the medication but quickly found myself tired and down. Also when the insurance company switched me to the generic I spent a month in a terrible depression and couldn't figure out why. One I realized it was the generic, I went back to the name brand Wellbutrin and felt better in two days.
I don't have crying jags but would if I wasn't on the anti-depressant. But life is not all rosy so I do have my down times but I never feel like I did when I wasn't on the medication.

Well for depression, medicines are not solution. Do Meditation, try breathing exercise, it will help you balance and handle depression.
