Will I have to pay again?

2 weeks ago my husband went to the dentist. He had a horrible tooth ache. The nerve was exposed. The dentist filled the tooth ($163.00) and gave him antibotics ($40.00). They said the tooth needs a root canal. They gave us an estimate for the root canal, post and cap, $2,000!! We have no dental insurance so we plan on waiting on the root canal. With the filling in, my husband felt 90% better.
Well today the filling fell out!! We are calling the dentist in the morning. I am just wondering though....do you think we will have to pay for a new filling? Or should the dentist replace it free of charge since it was only 2 weeks? I know he will push the root canal on us, but we just can't afford that.

Well, I think the filling was temporary but you may want to make sure. You could ask to make payments for the root cannal so you don't have to pay it all at once. Perhaps your husband may just want the tooth pulled which may be cheaper. However, if he doesn't want to do that then it will be fine. Just ask if they will accept payments or a payment plan. Have a nice day.

He can't have the tooth pulled cause it's a tooth in the back of his mouth and he doesn't have his wisdom teeth anymore, so if they pull this tooth he won't have anything back there to chew with.
The dentist said they need 1/2 down to start the root canal, that's $1,000. Ugh!

Ok this is just my opionion so take it for what its worth. When I was 17 I had about 8 root canals done on my back teeth (my dad insisted) I am now 37 and all but 2 of these same teeth have been pulled. I honestly wish they would have just pulled some of the 8 when I was younger and gotten it over with. I surely wouldn't have bothered with root canals as I think they are a waste of time and money. I think the dentist should replace the filling and you should not consider the root canal unless it is just something your husband wants to do. Now I have had 5 teeth (all back and 3 were wisdom) pulled and that was alot easier and quicker. They are all in the back so no one even knows unless I show them.

No way should he charge you again...If he does then you might want to take it over his head...because he obviously did shoddy work if it fell out after only two weeks.....You may want to see another dentist...as for the root canal..you can go to a dental school...they usually have cheaper rates....there....just a suggestion?

If this was just a temporary filling, then I think you'll have to pay for a replacement one, because temporary ones are designed to only last for so long - especially if your husband needs a root canal.
I think $2000 is pretty expensive for a root canal though. I was told I had an option with a bad tooth infection a while back. My dentist said it would cost $100 to have the tooth pulled, OR, they could try and save the tooth and do a root canal which would cost $500.
I opted to have the tooth pulled because we couldn't afford $500 at the time. As it was, once the infection had gone, I never even bothered to have it pulled.
Maybe it might be worth looking into a dental plan or finding some plan that might allow for discounted dental care.

If it is a permanent filling, then the dentist is responsible for replacing it at no charge to you, especially after such a short period of time. Also, find another dentist. If his filling fell out after two weeks, what will happen to him if this guy does a root canal? I went to an endodontist (a dentist who specializes in root canals) and he charged me around $850 from start to finish for one tooth. I opted not to have the tooth capped because it is a back molar. Instead, I will have my regular dentist fill it.

Here in sweden u would have to pay for it again coz when they pout in a filling it is usually just temporarely and not done to last for long. I also need a root canal done and I am also waiting to afford it. I do not understand why dentalcare has to be this expensive,

I think he should replace it free of charge. My son had half of his front tooth knocked out by his friend. It was an accident.Anyway,we went to the dentist had it fixed and that night he swallowed it.Back to the dentist again. This one lasted 3 months and the dentist still fixed it.It is fine now.I would tell him that if he wants the job to do the root canal he better fix it.Otherwise you will go to another dentist. Also you can call the better business buruea if he does not fix.

You know it's a shame what thye do. I have no dental insurance either so I need to have tthm pull it. Many people can't these fees. Many years ago you had a cavity they filled it and that was the end of the problem, now they always push this root canl and cap the tooth crap. If the dentists were really so concerned they would reduce the price rather than pull the tooth out. What I have done is told him to remove the tooth, then I look up for a dental lab in my area and make an appointment, (they do this, many people don't know) and I get fitted for a removable partial denture and going though the lab you save hundreds of dollars becuase your NOT paying the middle man which happens to be the dentist. Something you might want to consider. My btother also went this route and has saved a lot of money too.

I'm sure they would not charge you again it being only two weeks,my dentist would not.I've had a root canal and they are expensive but mine was covered but have no dental insurance right now and they are expensive . I would talk to the dentist and see what would be the solution instead of the root canal till you can afford it.

I have had so much work, at this point I am ready to just get dentures and be done with the whole mess. I do have a dentist though that lets me pay x amount of dollars a month instead of all at once. You may want to look around for someone like this. It may or may not have been a temporary filling, you'll probably still have to pay again and bet they will push the canal on you too. I was supposidely all done, but one tooth I had a canal on is abcessing, I tooth with a cap broke partially and one tooth with a cap has a small hole in it. I keep telling the dentist I am tired of all of it and want dentures, but they say I am too young. My teeth were very good up until I got pregnant and it seems as though both my boys sucked all my calcium out and now my teeth are deteriorating. I am a very self conscious person, and all these problems are making me miserable. I wish you and your husband the best of luck, coming from someone with insurance, but I still owe over $1500 !!

Thats absurd! If the dentist asks for another payment for his unsatisfactory service that he made. The filling fell out due to his service probably is lax or lousy, probably planned it all out for you to take the root canal. GOD I HATE DENTISTS!
