Do you think looks/appearance is a factor when call centers choose applicants?

What do you think? Does the way you look or the way you dress affect the decisions of the recruitment staff? This can also help those who are planning to apply for a job at a call center.

It might not matter that much for the job involved but properly dressed and better looking persons will definitely get a higher chance on landing the job.

during the interview, one will have to be properly dressed as this is a sign of respect that we give to the person who shall deal with us during the process. the looks i believe, will never matter. it will be the voice quality and the ability to communicate well that counts most. there are so many vacancies in the call centers. those they find qualified, will be contacted immediately to start work.

if one is applying for a job at the call center, one may come in casual attire. what counts most will be how one deals with the interview and the ensuing written examinations that these companies give. there will a series of interviews that they conduct in order to see if you are conversationally capable to serve. there are call centers though which will also hire some who will be good at written communication. so most call centers will see the oral and communication skills of applicants. the looks can be dealt with in due time. after all, the agents will be dealing with their clients through the computer rather than face to face.

With the high turnover of employees and people quitting. I doubt they're interested on how you dress. It's more of how you communicate and how you represent yourself. I have tried going on interviews (just for the fun of it, believe me) for these companies and I noticed that they're more inclined to hire someone for the 'need' of the job. I mean, they'd hire anyone who they're sure that would 'last' in the job. Plus, someone that they're sure they won't waste time training. So, I don't think it's how you dress but more of how much you need the job and of course, how you carry yourself and how you could represent their company. But of course, don't go to the interview with a beggar-look attire, you wouldn't like them to think you're there to ask for money.

In a way one's look affects the decision of recruitment staff not just in a call center industry but as a whole. If the applicant seems not confident and was not dressed properly it will really affect thier decision in getting the applicant for a certain position but it was just a little percentage though some agents give a big grade on the individuals confidence. I have been in a call center environment and as what I experienced. It is really hard to be in that work place cause on the process of training there's a lot of things that they look for. Even the last week of training does not mean that you are qualified for thier positions. Some even failed during the last day so better be ready for everything if you plan to be in that field. Goodluck!

I think it is not about the looks or your appearance for you to get hired in a call center, but what they were looking is how to talk and communicate on the phone.. Since, in a call center the customer is more interested on how to talk with them on how you deal with their needs.. They cannot see even you are the ugliest person in the world.. If you have a good communication skills then you might be hired.. I am applying before as a call center agent but then I am not qualified maybe because I am poor in grammar.. Anyways, it's okey! At least I tried my best...

I think in the physical sense of it, it doesnt matter how attractive a preson is. You just need to project a pleasant image to the person conducting the interview. After all, a person's judgement always depends on his/her criterion.

Well for one thing first impression last. In a call center we have to properly dress yourself to get hired and give a good impression that we can handle the job. You see different hr call centers have different processes in hiring an applicant, but wearing a proper attire will be a good plus, together with the preparedness of the job application itself and knowledge of about the company and seriously pass the interview with confidence and exams.

when reporting for an interview, it is best that you dress properly. this shows your intelligence and attitude as well. for corporate offices, its best to come in a business casual attire or semi-casual. but for a call center, not all requires such code of attire. mostly, it's the casual attire. basically, the recruitment staff is looking on how you response and your intelligence.

im cant really say generally as i have only worked in cvg. i havent tried others centers. i dont really think they do. i've seen people here that has dreadlocks for hair and punk for clothing. it didnt really matter. he just recently got promoted to a QE. although, it would be an advantage to let HR personnels determine that you are serious for this job.

Absolutely not. However, I do agree with the others that appropriate attire during the interview is important but looks is not a factor for hiring call center agents.

You don't need to look really gorgeous, have a flawless skin, long black hair and pearly white teeth to pass an interview and get hired in a call center unless you're applying to be a fashion model. Since most call centers are more influenced of Western Culture, they don't pay much attention to your physical looks. What matters here is your grammar, accent, system navigation skills, communication skills and comprehension. These skills are important for you to get by with your daily job as soon as you start working in a call center. However, it is really important for you to look professional enough. Who would be interested if the applicant is wearning jeans or micro skirt and havaianas? Just a corporate, decent look would be enough to impress your interviewer. After all, the look is just the first impression. Things change and turned real big time when you speak or do the talking. Show some aggressiveness but keep it moderate so as not to look or sound conceited. Don't talk too soft coz they might find you weak and not convinced that you'll be able to handle not so kind or irrate customers. Make sure that by the way you talk, always sound "employable". Cheers!

I guess so, you should look witty/smart/confident when applying for this job (or for whatever job)... the way you look or the way you dress may/can show your personality... and a good/pleasing personality is one of the factors most, if not all, companies are looking for... Good day!
