How to improve google and alexa page ranks?

Do you know what the best way is to improve your google and alexa rankings? I try and do a search on keywords relating to my sites but over 10 000 search results came up and its difficult to find my sites out of all of them Do you have any ideas or ways you do this? I add my sites to the engines every few weeks and try and get traffic still Im not moving up much in the rankings Please list the ways you do this Id really appreciate it Also if you kinow any way to check your page ranking

It is true that links from other high ranked pages help to improve your page ranking.
But I am running a blog and getting 4000 hits per month ( i know it is not much). All the trafic comes from searcg engines only.
It is because of the key words and file names of my blog. For example : "What is Mylot?"

thats very good 4000 hits and only from the search engines 1 other poster said the same thing and i think you mean the title and meta tags so im going to check it out
