A Pagan. A Witch, and not a Wiccan (Wicca being a modern Pagan initiatory tradition) I am at least the 5th Generation of Witch in my family. we try and trace it a bit, but out of respect for those not here to confirm or deny their practice, we'll only call those a Witch that was known to call themselves that by those alive now. me, My mum, my aunt, my uncle my nan both my nans parents (great nan still with us) my nans dads mum. are the ones KNOWN by the living to have considered themself Witch. So as I was growing up, Witchcraft was just something that people did. it was never something strange or mysterious to me. before I even started school I had been taught a few simple spells, to find lost things, to protect myself when I felt threatened, how to raise energy, how to shape it, to tie a hair to a tree with a wish. among others. beyond the simple spells, others I learned just through the fact I'd seen them being worked. as I got older I'd be allowed to burn paper charms in fires. when I first went to school, apart from bits I'd picked up on at Christmas (not so much easter, that was all about spring and fertility and eggs and hares, and of course chocolate) tht was when I was first exposed to Christianity. it didn't occur to me it wasn't just a story for some people. after all, at playschool they read you stories, I thought this was more of the same. and the stories weren't at that age particularly interesting. then when we were told to pray everyone bowed their heads, put their hands together. I didn't know what they were on about, so I just sat still and quiet, then was called up in front of the whole school and smacked by the headmaster for not praying. it wasn't even a church school. I never ever bowed my head in school prayer. it's not my God, I don't bow to them. when I went home I told my mum what had happened and asked if there was something wrong with me because the school said jesus was real, but it didn't sound real to me. my mum told me that the bible was a book written a long long time ago, so long ago that no one knows for certain if it really happened or if it's just a story. and that some people beleive it really happened, some people beleive it's just a story, and it's perfectly okay to make up your own mind whether you think it's a true story or not. I thought it was a story. I asked my mum what she thought, and she said she thinks it's a story too. that she beleived in nature, because nature is something you can see and smell and touch. so as time went on I got halfway decent at Witchcraft, I learned a few forms of divination and dowsing. I began to consider myself a Witch too. after all, there's more to being a Witch that the occasional spellworking. a Witch is someone fairly skilled at Witchcraft. over the years I also developed my own religious context. beyond what my mum had told me about beleiving in nature I'd never been taught to be religious. I was allowed to make up my own mind. I found that I beleived in a Goddess and God as a form to the forces of nature. I beleived in finding ways to mark the turning seasons. despite having my own religious beleifs I did decide to attend a church after school group with some friends that went, because I enjoyed it. there were games and stories, and my friends went. I never beleived them, although I learned a lot about Christianity, and I think I was considered one of the more knowledgeable children there. I don't suppose they ever thought that I didn't beleive it. I was just good at remembering details. about 12 or so, I suppose, my dad, who we didn't live with anymore. got interested in spiritualism. he started joining in with a local developmental circle, and as the meetings were during my weekend visits, I went too. I learned some really interesting things, had some mediumship training, learned more meditation and divination skills. psychometry, tarot, scrying, wax and water. learned about spirits and guides and reincarnation. reincarnation made sense to me, so that became part of my self constructed religion. some years later, probably about 14 I bought a book about Witchcraft and Paganism, and it described religious beleifs and practice that matched my own. I realised that not only was I a Witch, as I already knew, but I was also a Pagan. then maybe a few years on from there I found out about Wicca. Gerald Gardner, Alex Sanders, Crowley, the Farrars etc. I found it very interesting but a bit too much dogma for me. too rigid. also, the rede made no sense to me. I was a very scientific child, and threefold is quite simply against the laws of physics. every action has an equal and opposite reaction. to this day, I am a Witch, a Pagan, into studying both science and religion.

Hello, Thank You for sharing.. I was a practioner of spells, and magick all my life, It was not until my late teen years when I realised that I am Natural Magick practioner, and it was joked about how I should not be messed with because of my powers, all the time growing up.. But I did not like how people always had hollywood connotations, or fears of it. Thanks for Sharing, Both Wicca, witches, and Paganism is misunderstand often by the Christian, Judeo, Islamic faiths... But when people take their time to really sit down and learn the truth about Witches and Witchcraft, They will find in general it usually is a pretty good and inspiring tradition.. and like all groups of people. There are both good and bad in every group. :) Crowley has some interesting stuff. But I admit I chuckle at his beast stuff. :) .. Sanders, has helped me validate alot of truth based on what was told to me... I have not learned about the Farrars yet. Books, literature, movies, and tapes all gave me leads to further research the truths about many paths, as it gave me the terminology to look up and deal with. Thanks for responding, Take care, - DNatureofDTrain

hehe. the thing about Crowley is that he'd kill himself laughing if he realised how many people beleive his own publicity. he'd love it to know that people really think he was so evil. he was strange, a little unsavoury in places, but certainly not so terrible as some people are keen to beleive. in fact, some of what he beleived was really positive.

I study the medicine way or some call it native American although thats not the best 3way to word it as you know .I also study shamanism . I always had beliefs in nature spirits since little believed every thing was equal had a spirit .I had spirits visit me talk to me and animal guides in my sleep and while awake .I did not learn there was a religion that matched my beliefs till I was a adult .I was rather sheltered religiously growing up .When I leaned of it it was what I already believed . That was the Cherokee teachings .I did go to their museum growing up but never thought about them having another religion .

Neat, thanks for sharing.. I did not realise alot of my own spirituality matched Cherokee beliefs as well, althought I had Native American Indian blood, it was not confirmed what tribe band or nation.. But now it is believed Cherokee, and either Lakota,Dakota, or Nakota.. However, the Elders of The Lakota, an a Russian Shaman women who was friends with my Grandmother had strong influence on my Grandmother, and it was their instructions to my grandmother, and The Russian Woman, who I called Grandma Shaman...had a major influence on my learning how to work with Spiritual medicines while growing up. I'm jewish, and I born to a jew mother- what that makes me a jew. Actually, it's really hard to enter into the Jewish religion, but it is possible. Before you becpme a jew, you have to study rules and traditions and after that you need to get the permission by the rabbis. Not many people who are not jews try to become ones. There are few jews in the world and the most of them have been born jews and this is why they called "Jews".

Thank You for responding.. and sharing with us. I have heard of people being born Jewish by Heritage as you are and of others becoming Jewish through faith. I looked into, and the laws are way to strict for me, my living experiences conflict to much. But I do agree it is a wonderful and beautiful religion, and heritage. I am born Catholic, my mom were born Aglipayan and converted to Catholic when she got married. My mom is the one introduce me the Catholic faith, she is my teacher who cultivate my attitudes and never ending faith in God. Her being active in church activities had influenced me to stay in Catholic faith, she is giving me a clear image of God's grace based on our day to day living. In the simplest way she is explaining to me how does God care for me.

Glad to see your mother was such and inspiration to you. Catholicism is beautiful. In my preteen years, I wanted to become a Catholic Preist.. But.. I found that my beliefs were reaching beyond any normal faiths, and found truth in all religions.. So I ended up on my own solitary path, I call Heinzism.. Learning and studying from all religions, faiths, and spiritual traditions, and doing my best to live and walk my own path, with the guidance of Spirit. (The word I use for G-d). I been guided down and unknown path... and Spirit/G-d helped and cared for me when most people would not or could not. I still enjoy Catholicism, althought I am far to eclectic to fit into the faith :) . Thanks for sharing! - DNatureofDTrain

Thank you for Sharing. My Grandpa, Grandma, Mom, and Dad, and most of my family are all Christians... My Grandparents had an open mind, and believed that as long as a person had Jesus in their life they were okay to have beliefs other than Christianity.... My Grandma was influenced by a Lakota Elder, and a Shaman from Russia who was her friend. They instructed my Grandma to read to me from books about all religions and cultures and encouraged me to learn and practice all I could about religion, telling them I would become a good spiritual leader... Well, I am not sure about the good spiritual leader part lol. But it did play an important role in forming my own tradition I call Heinzism.. So that is one of the main reasons I been set on a very eclectic and tolerant path, and I am happy with it. I am glad My Grandparents read to me out of the Bible, The Vedas, The Qu'ran, and myths and legends and stories. Take care, the Bible is interesting, and althought Christianity gets a bad rap do to a few.. It is a wonderful religion, with good traditions :), and I am glad you are happy. :) . - DNatureofDTrain

I am a Spiritualist and was introduced to Spiritualism when I visited a Spiritualist Camp in Cassadaga Florida. Spiritualism is a science, philosophy and a religion.
