Just for the number of simpsons fans that are going to see it it will be a sucsess in terms of sales (although may not reach harry potter / spiderman levels, but will be in top 5 or 10 films for the year i think). I am a little apprehensive about wheather it'l actually be any good though, i've felt some of the newer epsiodes have been lacking a bit and it needs a good story to last for a couple of hours and not just become a set of catchphrases (my worst fear).

Hmm its a hard record to beat but as it says its really 18 year build-up and basically my whole school is going to see it! i think that it will take over Harry Potter/Spider-man 3 and of course Pirates of the Carribean BUT apparently POTC 3 is going to break all records so it will be good to watch the box office :)

the simpsons wouldn't beat spiderman or harry potter in terms of sales, but for simpsons aficionados, it would be a guaranteed hit. i think that the closest thing the simpsons have to a movie before this was the (2-part?) episode where mr. burns blocked out the sun. i cant wait for the movie to come out. :)

I think it was fairly successful, The Simpsons overall will go down in history as being bigger than Potter and Spiderman I think, but not the movie alone. My full review for the film can be found HERE: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/522771/the_simpsons_movie_movie_review.html

Not too sure why would someone be interested in box office for the sympsons, the movie deserve better. Anyhow, in its opening weekend made $74M and standing now in 97 all-time with $183M. The Simpsons movie is for fans of the tv series and many of them are not movie goers.
For comparisons HP5 made $77M in the first weekend and ended-up with $292M in 27 place all-time.

I think fans will have high expectations and so may feel disappointed after seeing the film. It has been a successful series for many years but changing from 25-30 mins to 2-3 hours will be a challenge.
I think overall it will be successful as it is an extremely popular family show so even if reviews are negative people will still want to see it anyway.
