My parents have adopted a six year old Chinese boy. I want to know more about his culture and ways of life before they brought him to the United States. I have never been to China but would love to go visit sometime.

Hi Luintaurien,
It is very nice of you to put in efforts, in advance, to understand the little brother (I would not call him adopted brother) whom you would meet shortly.
It would certainly help you undrstand him better and take care of him in a better way.
All I can say is that the boy is very lucky: first to get parents like your parents and then a caring elder sister like you.
I wish you all the success.

You are absolutely right. I also apprecioate your concern for family and family members, at a time when attachment to family is on the decline, everywhere.
I wish you had told how many brothers and sisters you have and their age. I guess, if you have any, they would be quite grown up and this brother would be quite a young one, comparatively.

Thank you. I think it will all be good. I am just really curious about different cultures and especially when they do have something to do with a family member.

Since he is only a six-year-old boy in Fujan Province, I don't think he has any religion experience, for not many people have a religion faith there. He should be a first-year grader at a primary school and can communicate in Chinese, write some Chinese, work with numbers, perhaps sing some Chinese songs or make some very simple drawings. I guess he might not be able to speak English but a Chinese boy of his age usually hasn't much difficulty in learning English and he will learn quickly. People in Fujan mostly have rice with a lot of vegetables. I think the boy is very lucky to become a family member of yours. I can't imagine how happy he is now!

What kind of religion experiences would he have had? He was in an orphanage from birth. What would his schooling have been like?

About the religion, I think you will have all of this in the documents. About the culture, for a 6 years boy, I do not think he already have a strong feeling about the real culture about China. This needs time, and it touch so much different fields, it is hard to talk what a chinese culture looks like in a short discussion. Maybe several books are necessory.
