Optimum for gaming purposes will be atleast 1 gb of dual channel ram. But 512 mb is ok if you are running Windows XP. Windows vista users need not look at anything below 1, especially if they are going to use the aero effects.

I have 224MB RAM and I wish I could get more. If you want to play games like Half-life 2, World of Warcraft, or Flight Simulator, than this should do fine. 512MB RAM is good for some games, but I suggest you get another 512MB RAM. It will not only speed up your computer, but help the games run smoothly. In a few months I want to update my drive to 1 GB RAM so I can play these type of games. Good luck and God bless!

I have a combinations of 256 MB and 512 MB chips that's equal to 736 MB of RAM.
With the advent of Windows Vista and high level games, it is the age to count RAM in GBs. You have 512 MB RAM right? It is enough to run a Windows XP machine and for a few games. But if you are really into gaming you need 1) 1 to 2 GB of RAM and 2) Graphics Card - 128, 256 or 512 MB whichever is in your budget.

I have 2x256 mb. The computer is getting slow, I'm thinking of upgrading to 2x1 gig.

2 gb. i don't know which os you are using. if you are using vista then 1 gb is requirement but 2 gb always give you a better performance.

i have one gig, my page file is over 2 gig so i have about 3 gig of possible ram. for gaming purposes, depending on what games you play, you should have as much as you can get and how good your video card is as well as that is a vital part of gaming
