I just went to the doctor last week and he suggested that I start taing a baby aspirin every day. He didn't say why but I have heard of it before. I know it helps prevent heart attacks and strokes and there has been some research that shows it may be helpful in preventing certain cancers. I guess it was a kind of slap into reality for me. Its time that I should start taking better care of myself. Is anyone else taking baby aspirin every day?

I do not- I know they say that taking an aspirin a day is good for you- I think it has something to do with thinning the blood also- No clots and also to help prevent heart attacks- I know both of my parents take 1 a day- My doctor hasn’t told me to yet- I’m 34. I wonder what the age is that they recommend it- I’m not due for another checkup until October- It’s a great question to ask the doctor. A friend here at work had been walking funny for a while- He had something wrong with his legs- He just started to get better and then we got news that he passed away at the dinner table- A blood clot from his leg to his heart- : ( It was so sad- I often wondered after if he was taking an aspirin a day? Or if it would have helped.

I think your still a bit young but it never hurts to ask. I have no idea how old you should be to start aspirin therapy. I am just about 43 and this is the first time it was recommended to me. I am sorry about your co-worker.

I am not able to take any kind of aspirin as I am allergic to aspirin so I would have to take tylenol or anything else that does not have aspirin in it. I too have heard that it helps prevent heart attacks. I lost a friend last summer because he would not take aspirin, like his wife had suggested. It could have saved his life from what I was told.

I am sorry for the loss of your friend. Wow, I think I will be real good about taking it from now on. Its strange that such a tiny little pill can do so much.

I try very hard to remember to take an aspirin every day. I want to be healthy and take good care of myself. It is very hard to remember though. I have resorted to putting all my vitamins on my night stand and it still doesn't work very well. Good luck!

My husband does. I probably should start doing it too. Since I'm not getting any younger. It is a cheap way to help yourself stay healthy.

I was told by one of my Doctors who was working with me for a while with my Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, etc. that a Baby aspirin helps keep the Blood flowing, and can help keep people from having Strokes. Unfortunately I had forgot about this until you mentioned it, so maybe I should get some Baby aspirin again?

I agree that it is a good idea to take a baby aspirin (we say 100mg aspirin or half a normal one) each day to thin your blood a little to help prevent heart attack and stroke. There have been a lot of studies done on this and it is apparently a good idea. I thinkyou are supposed to make a few other lifestyle changes too though for it to be a real benefit. Especially if you are post menopausal as you lose the hormonal prtection against heart disease that you have when you are younger.

In Australia doctors prescribe half an aspirin dose for people with heart conditions. They actually make tablets which are equivalent to half a dose, so you don't have to break them in half. I take it because I have high blood pressure and the doctor says that it will help. My sister-in-law takes it because she has high blood pressure as well as a heart condition. It is used as a blood thinning agent and it is good for people who are not needing the more potent blood thinners. I only started taking it about 3 years ago but my sister-in-law has been taking it for about 10 years ago now since she had her first heart attack. So, it might be that your blood pressure is high, and it can help those where it is even slightly raised and yet you do not need blood pressure medication yet. Or it could be that you have a family history of any of the medical conditions like high blood pressure, heart conditions or even strokes. It is a preventative more than anything, and as the Doctor told me, it is better to be safe than sorry later on.

Both of my parents have been taking a baby aspirin a day for years. They are very healthy for their ages, 75 and 73. You are correct that they purpose of the aspirin is to prevent heart attacks and strokes. It does this by inhibiting the aggregation quality of the blood...in other words, making it less easy for the blood to clot. Therefore, one can also tend to bleed easier when cut and get bigger, nastier bruises when they bump their leg or something. So....be careful and don't be alarmed when you tend to bleed a bit easier and longer after an injury!

No, I don't take anything. I know my Fasther takes aspirin, not the baby ones. It is quite true that it helps prevents strokes & heart attacks. It's a blood thinner, so you may bruise more easily. I think it's wise to take what your Doctor recommended.

I don't personally. But my mom used to have to take an asprin a day. She may be back on that regimine but I don't know. She had to stop for awhile before a surgery. She has to do this to keep her blood thin. I know I was taking large doses of aspirin for a while for back pain. I was bruising easily and bleeding a lot from scratches, cuts, etc. So I had to stop. I was thinking it was like one adult bayer aspirin, didn't know it was a baby aspirin. I love the flavor of those.
