Our food is making us sick

It is sad to see how corporations could care less about our well-being, they only care about making a profit. Look at the food we eat, it is tainted with hormones, pesticides, preservatives. Some of you might be surprised to hear our meat has carbon monoxide to keep it looking red and fresh, yet carbon monoxide is a toxin, and is deadly. Most people don't relaize how our food kills us slowly (heart disease, strokes, high hdl levels, and the worst and most common killer being cancer). Food that has been tainted with so many chemicals, toxins is carcinogenic, and causes cancer. the onyl sure way to lower your chances of such diseases is actually eat organic, or natural foods, the least they are processed the safer and better you can feel about your health. One shouldn't even use the debate that its better that cows and hens are injected with hormones because in that way they produce more food for us, and we need a lot of food to feed a lot of use. Maybe we should take a look at the way we eat, how wasteful we are at times. But most significantly the amount we eat. If we eat smaller portions, especially of organic foods ( foods that are pristine and intact from toxins, and such) we will be healthier. Of course it is not within the Food industry's interest to sell less food. They want to sell more , because selling more means a greater profit for them. When diseases come up, sometimes the food we eat is a great cause/influence in our illness. It is significant, we make better food choices. As for the argument that organic foods are much more expensive, that is much less true today, and will be mroe and more affordable in the future. As more and more organic food companies come about, as consumers we will have more and more choices to choose from, and prices wont be so high, being that there is so much competition. You can also grow your own food, buy from a local small farm, join a co-op, or find smaller independent markets which have organic foods available at lower prices than do supermarkets. there are many options, and the options are increasing day-today. Eat organic, and be healthy.

Here in India, the foodstuffs aren't much toxic. Mostly because, the general population either doesn't eat meat / beef. However, the fruits, vegetables here are genetically modified to obtain a better look i.e. tomatoes and apples appear bigger and more reddish. I'm a complete lacto vegetarian and I don't face any such problems of high cholestrol, hdl levels, cancer, etc. :) If vegetarianism is followed, I don't think that there will be much problems for the general public ! And yes, you are right - Organic food is the best !

One of the reason we decided to go Kosher many years ago. We now live a Kosher lifestyle, including the things we eat. We buy farm fed beef from Kosher farms, and we buy 'real' organic vegetables. We study what to eat and what not to eat according to the Bible. It has stopped headaches, arthritis and many other minor problems. I wish other people would see what the companies are doing to our food.

I agree wholeheartedly with everything you said here! People need to pay more attention to what they're putting into their bodies! Switching to organic and all natural foods is the single biggest change you can make to enhance and extend your life. There are plenty of healthy alternatives to conventional foods that peope love. I wont lie and say that I never eat junk food or fast food, but I try to balance it out with the rest of my diet. I seek out organic and all natural alternatives for everything I buy. We live in a selfish, wasteful society. Large corporations don't care about the inpact they have on the earth. My husband and I don't have much money but I will gladly pay extra for organic foods, clothing, and household products. I want my daughter to have the best possible start in life for a healthy future.

This topic is really close to my heart. It is correct to say that our produce are very much tainted with what not. Even my Mum who is in her late sixties are grumbling about the food that we are eating. She's a well read person and she knew about all the current on goings. She'd would say that people during yesteryears do not get sick easily and there's not many diseases unlike today. The food that we eat are causing us to get sick in the long run. I am an advocate for organic produce. Unfortunately, the cost of buying such products are pretty steep. I live in a country where land is scarce. I wish I can grow my own food and even get my organic supplies easily. I wish there is a governmental body that would promote on organic produce which I believe is almost unlikely...

YOu have many valid points about the way we eat these days. There are so many chemicals, boxed foods, steroids added. It is a wonder our kids grow so fast and look like adults before the age of 12! I lived on a farm as a child so I was fortunate that we had our own fresh beef, pork and chicken to eat. We also had our own vegetable gardens. These days I live in the city so we don't have those options anymore, but choose to shop at the local flea markets to buy vegetables from the smaller producers that don't use the chemicals big corporations do. If I see someone on the side of the road selling their veggies and fruits I will buy from them as well before I buy form a major grocer. Their fruits and vegetables are most often have additives.

I totally agree that food is making us sick. I was a little sticker shocked when I saw the prices of organic food but like you said it's becoming a more popular market. It's scary to think out pet food has already been contaminated. I'm sure a lot of the food we are eating is contaminated as well. I have made some changes in my families diet. We don't eat out too much and we have cut back drastically on junkfood and soda as well.

I agree. I really honestly think they should reconsider what we are putting into our bodies. Of course, if you really felt bad about it, you could just grow your own food :D

A couple years ago I stopped eating beef all together the change in my body was wild. I went through some sort of withdraw (cramps and upset stomach) and now I mostly eat cereal. I am a diabetic and have to eat a small meal every 3 hours to keep my sugar level steady. I found that a unsweetened bowl of rice crispies with 2% milk does the trick. That is mostly what I eat. If I have to eat anything else, I go with boneless, skinless grilled chicken or peanut butter and jelly. I also eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies whenever I can get them. LIVE IN PEACE

All of this is true. I think education is the main key. Once more people start to buy products that are actually good for them instead of horrendously unhealthy ones the prices will go down on the healthy ones. The reason companies put sugar in everything is because it sells products, if consumers demand a better product, it will take a while but eventually we will get it. Actually it would be better if we could all do fresh products from local growers or grow it ourselves, but that's not always possible.
