India is definately coming up , but still there are some areas where we have to come out of shackles. And one of them is dowry in indian marriages , the more the groom is earning , or in good position , the more seems the dowry. It is considered a aspect of prestige , as if he has studied well or gets a good job , earns good money , just to get more dowry . It seems a gate pass for asking more dowry, in terms of cash or kind. Maximum marriages here are done with dowry , as per the conditions of brides parents , it may be in terms of gold , cash or any other product. We say we are a fast growing country , but when it comes to these old traditions we seem to be fixed to them. We just say its a tradition and go ahead , we take dowry , we dont think what or how a brides parents have collected that money. Its not like if someones rich he doesnt have problems paying it , but its like he/she has to keep it according to his / her status.

the dowry is definately a no-no...but there are always such problems in the developing countries.. Even the most educated ppl give and take dowry.if ppl stop giving dowry the practice will stop for who'll demand it?
