I am with Kidsmart, a Canadian company that sells children's toys and accessories, it was started by 2 moms in BC. I thought it looked like a great way for me to meet other moms with children in the same general age group. It's not turning out so well, the start up costs are HUGE compared to other companies, $150, $300 or $500. My husband is a big fan of the "Go big or go home" philosophy, it ended up costing me near $600 once I bought my start up kit and paid for the shipping. I'm finding it's not selling that well, most of the products we carry can be found in places like Toys R Us and Winners, just to name a couple. We sell them for more then these places, so it's not wonder that they don't sell.
Since joining them, I have joined another company that I love!! I'm now also with Usborne Books, which I LOVE!! It's children's book published out of the UK. They say the books are for newborn to age 16. The start up kit including shipping and everything I needed to start my business was only $38, when you make 20% commission it doesn't take long to make that back. We have just over 2000 titles, of those just over 700 are under $10 each. They sell a lot better then anything from the other company. Usborne Books have a very strong following and kids LOVE them. My 2 year old only asks for his Usborne Books now, he doesn't have to read anything else. I'm going to be starting up a home run daycare soon and that will be the only books I will have for daycare.
