At what age does one become old? Are you old yet?
I used to think 50 was old, but now that I am in my 40's fifty does not seem that very old anymore.
Is old an age we become or is it a state of mind that we adopt? Does it have to do with the calendar or does it have to do with health issues?
My father never seemed old to me until he got sick now he seems so frail and old - before he was strong and invincible in my eyes.
So, what is old?

Old is only a word!
Antiques increase in value as they age, and so do people.
Oldies have all the money they need, because their needs are greatly decreased.
Older people are seldom murdered because they are home in bed, and not in the Pub after midnight.
I'm 73 and still working everyday (because I enjoy it!)
My health is good and I feel like 35 most of the time.
The only time I feel Old is when I look in the mirror.
I've had a wonderful Life and I don't regret a moment of it.
What else can I say?

I really hope that it is a state of mind!!! I turned 50 this year and the sound of it seems so very old. Everyone who knows me is amazed to hear that I am 50, as they say I don't look or act it. I really believe that a person could seem old at 30 if they decided to bow down to age!

I thought 20 is way to old already. In ancient time, you are a man when you are 12 and you probably die before you hit 20 (because there were too many wars). So now, I guess I am pretty much an antique already.

i think "you're as old as you feel"is a good rule of thumb.i know 25 yr olds who are already "old" acting..and 60 year olds that do not act "their age" at all.
health plays a big factor though.
i know myself when the cold gets in my leg,i feel about 90 then.

I don't know! When I was a teenager I thought 30 was old. WHen I was in my 20's I thought 40 was old. Now I am in my 30's and I don't think 40 or 50 is old. I don't see my father as frequently as I would like, but when I do see him it seems he just ages overnight. He used to be this vibrant, strong, big muscular man, who I thought was the strongest man in the world. I remember he had biceps that could rival Hulk Hogans in my eyes! I remember he used to swing me around on his arms like I was a ragdoll when I was a kid. Now, he has lost a lot of his muscle tone and his skin is sagging and tough as leather. I see how much he has aged and it makes me sad. I think that it is a state of mind. He is only 57 but he doesn't think he is all that old.

I think old is a state of mind. Your only as old as you feel now. When I was young couldn't wait to grow up, but now realize how important it is to enjoy every day, as it comes to each of us.

I have always thought that you were not old till you were 70. I thought this even as a kid. But I was not prepared for my body to start feeling old at 40. Seems that is when everything started failing for me. I will be 47 next week and I am about to declare 45 as being old. LOL

well i think when a person stops thinking he gets old !! .....you are suppose if at the age of 100 and thinking about the next thing to do you can do anything ! this doenst makes you old .....you think you are young enough to do anything ...whenever you stop thinking and trying ..you get old !! you think now you cant do any thing ...and this is the end ...at this same second you gets older ..and one must then realize that he is old enough to do such a work or thing !!

My father had an expression that he authored and often preached:
Age is wisdom, gained by longevity. Decrepitude is self bestowed.
You are only as old as you let yourself feel. And, I must admit that there are days I feel more like 90 something than 40 something!

Going just by age here, I would say that 65+ is old. But I do agree that age is just a state of mind. I know its crazy, but I started feeling old when I turned 18. Im 21 now, and I feel the same way, only older. It really depends on the type of person that you are. Some people who are very young act very old and some people who are very old act very young. Everyone can be young at heart. :-)

You are truely as old as you think, have you ever hear the saying "you as old as you think";yes the calendar details are just for the records. At any age,i belive your state of health or fittness is what really matters.however, the investments made into your health during your ealier years are important. Many have handled their bodies and indeed their health during their earlier years carelessly(after all it is their bodies and they have a right to it) and have had to pay dearly as they grew older.Honestly it not all foods you just eat, study your body and medically know what is good and necessary for you,it is not all things you should actually be doing with your body;study and understand your physic(you are unique and different from others)and involve in acts and habits that are beneficial. As an advise avoid excessess,do everything moderately and finally no investment in your health is too much.

Some people are old due to age and some due to the state of mind. When a person enters 50-60, he/she starts becoming old. The word old is also affected by the health issues of the person. If the person is healthy and maintained enough, he/she may not look old at 50s also.
Some people start looking old at 40s even. This is because they start feeling that they are old. They have several health issues, which make them feel and become old.

Age always depends upon your own believing! Some time we see people become old around the age of 45/ 48 / 50; But some people are just normal and doing the things like a young person and we feel surprised when heard that the person has reached at 60!
So it is really clear to me that our mind and our attitude play major role in inviting aging and allowing to grab you!

I don't think there's a cut off age to really say when you are old. Even at my 30s, I am alredy feeling very old due to my state of mind. I think it all boils down to our physical and psychological well-being....

As long as you think that you are not old , you'll be young. Physical health may weaken you. Have an alert mind and be young at heart. You'll never get old.

"Being old " have two meanings, one is physical and the other is psycological. When your body become weak and could not take good care of yourself, you are old; or when you feel rather tired that you don't care anymore what is happening around you, you are old too. In this sense, our feeling about "being old" switches all the time because our mood keeps changing.

I know technically you ar emiddle aged at 34. That is what it says on a poster in my doctor's office, so it must be true.
I used to think 30 was old. Now that I am past that age I no longer think so. I have changed my mind to 55. I imagine as I age that numbre will also be altered!

Being old depends on one's perspective. For me, old is when you are no longer able to do the things that you are doing and that you are so weak already. And when you already reached the age of 60...LOL and you have so many grandchildren and everyone is calling you grandma and grandpa. For me, that is being old...
