Best MiniDV Camcorder Opinions

I need to buy a new camcorder to film the upcoming "graduation ceremony" of my son's 5th Grade class. I've been searching for days and just keep getting more confused. I don't have a lot of money to spend; would like to keep it under $500. Ok, stop laughing! Here's what I'd like in the camcorder: -at least 20x optical zoom; more if possible -the most digital zoom possible -ability to film in low-light situations -I'm just looking for a miniDV format; don't need HD Can anyone please give me some advice on what to buy or stay away from?
