I can think of so many suggestions that can improve election in the Philippines. To prevent cheatings, the election should go IT. This way, election results will be so much faster to preclude chances of cheatings. Pass a law , I mean a REAL LAW, against family dynasty. This step is aimed at dismantling private armies of political families whose aim is to perpetuate their family in power for all times. Look at what is happening in the Philippines today. Our government passed a sham law to this effect. Like limiting the tenure of elected persons to only two terms, without plugging the loopholes in that law.So, a mayor will served only two terms. After that, since he is no longer qualified to run for mayor, his wife will replace him and run as the next mayor.Of course the wife wins, what with all the resources and goons of her husband. Comes next election, the husband former mayor will once again run for mayorsince he is already again qualified to run as mayor. This is how crazy philippine elections has become

i agree with your views..there is even one place in the province where the whole family runs for the position..what happened to that law "anti-dynasty law"?, please amend it as it proved to be ineffective and just full of sham! And i also would recommend that COMELEC will be an independent body free from the influence of the government as it is now very bias in its decisions. And it has lost its integrity because it can be dictated by the ones in opsition. aka. GMA right? I also go for the computerazation of our election. In that way it is faster, cleaner and less manpower involved hence less cheating. We still use the traditional system which has become a source of cheating and corruption.

We must be very cautious with the computerization of election. Don't think that just because something is computerized then it is clean from cheating. As a matter of fact, it might just make cheating much easier, with just a push of a button and your thousand can turn into millions, and no hard evidence to trace the changes. If we're going to push through computerization, what we first need to set up is a credible and reliable commission of election, as well as a powerful non-government body to monitor the election. As of now both are yet to be fully developed.

We can improve the system of election in the country by going IT, banning of political dynasty, eradication of cheating and so on are the many suggestion. But how? I said it so because the people themselves in the government are the ones that opposes improvement. Maybe it is because they can no longer chaet and their chances to stay in power will become minimal. the way I look at the political system in the country is very engrossed in family of politicians. The former once are endorsing their sons to replaced them. They will sort every ways to maintain in power. They will use their money to pay people to vote them, they will switch ballot boxes to ensure to ensure they win. The worst is , they will kill the opponent if is necessary to grab position. It is so pathetic and unimaginable act for a peaceful man. Why?, because of greed for money. Can u imagine spending 200 million to run a senatorial position, how can they get it back all those expenses, where did they get all this money? I was listenning to news and they say they can complete the canvassing in two weeks, In our place in Mandaluyong , everything is settled in just two days but other places they say ballot boxes are still arriving. This is how backward our system are. From remote places the boxes will travel to the Provincial hall for canvassing and this is the way cheating and changes to the result will happen. It looks like in the country communication is still made of old ages that took four days to travel ballot boxes. In the Us,France lately, the winners are declared in the same wow. It is not that we dont have ways to improve it, it is the one in power who donot like to have improvements in our system. Just my opinion.

totally wiping out vote-buying would prove to be very difficult, and it requires the willingness of each and every candidate. the voting public, themselves, must not allow themselves to be insulted by letting the candidates buy their votes. easier said than done, i know. there ought to be a strict no-vote-buying policy. i don't get it why candidates have to buy votes just to get elected. what pride is there to be in government when you know the people voted for you only because of money? shameful!

I believe in what you said that 'we cannot change what we can tolerate'. It's so easy to 'suggest' improvements for our elections to pursue as clean and peaceful but I think the real work comes from within, you're right we can complain till our voices run out and we can talk like there's no tomorrow and even give speeches debates and point our fingers on the other side and say that it's because of them that the philippine electoral system, or even the philippine government is such because of the one opposite our side, like how our current politicians are doing. Pointing fingers at each other and telling that it's their fault. The opposition saying it's the administrations fault and the administration saying it's the oppositions fault. I think the first thing to be done is, stop pointing fingers and get the work done. And then stop the tolerance of all that is dirty in politics and government. Simple things, like stop bribing the traffic enforcer when you beat the red light or drive your car during coding. Don't go looking for fixers when you go to LTO to renew your license or ask your accountant to lower the tax you pay for the year and pay prompt taxes. The change should come from ourselves. The thing with us is that we complain of dirty politicians and even dirtier government, but we ourselves use them to our advantage when the need arises, if we all would go out and pay for the consequences of our actions and learn patience and perserverance then we can all start to clean this entity called government. Companies wants government contracts, why? coz they get a higher price and bulk orders for their products/service. So what do they do, they pay off gov't officials so that their companies can win the bidding. Computerization of elections, yes, it may help but it's not the end all and be all of clean elections, coz even if the elections are computerized but the mindset of the politicians are still hell bent on cheating then they will find a way to cheat, even before election time, like what happened this elections, some pay off their constituents (vote buying) a day or so before the elections, some scare off their opponents, some even kill, so we cannot stop cheating simply by computerizaton of elections. A mindset and ways overhaul is what is needed, by the entire philippines in order to make a cleaner elections and a cleaner government

I agree with the previous post that this is a cultural thing. Our consciousness must learn to move forward if we ever want to change our ways. A major overhaul of things we once had taken for granted is needed, and we need to question the bad practices which we have been so used to that we now consider them normal. In this case I believe in the position that you can't teach old dogs new tricks. Thus it falls to the shoulders of today's youth to mend the ways. We are the one who's going to carry the burden of the future sooner or later, so what better way than to start now? A proactive cooperation and participation in politics is needed from today's generation, rather than a passive acceptance of things as it is. We hold in our hands the opportunity to start off better, all we have to do is not to waste it. For a start we can watch the turn out of this election zealously. And to vote on the next election according to our heart's dictate, not our wallets. Complaining is not bad as it is, we just need to make sure that it reaches the right channels. Cheating can be remedied if we fight it, rather than go with the flow.

to my fellow countrymen i think one way to improve our election and our government is to ban political dynasty. i hope a law shall be passed disallowing husband and wife, brothers or sisters, uncles, cousins, relatives running for public office. have you notice, if the mayor cannot run for another term the wife or the son or daughter will. how many senators we have now whose wife is either a congresswoman or a mayor? if not a wife the brother???

I think electronic voting machines are a good option for secure and safe voting as compared to ballot papers. Here is India electronic voting machines are introduced but still in many parts of the country ballot papers are still practised..People should be aware of their duties and rights and recent proceedings..
