20th Century Woman, loud, drunk, crass... return to your embroidery!

May 15, 2007 12:24am CST
Pain in the butt, or what??? Seriously though, those suffrogettes have got a lot to answer for. But, is the woman of today - binge drinking, fighting, swearing and so on, an improvement? Or were they better when they did as they were told and got on with their embroidery? Discuss...

It sounds like you've been hanging out with a rough crowd. I can't say I know any women who binge drink, fight or swear. If you don't like what you see out there though, here's a suggestion: Maybe you could take up embroidery yourself, and become a preserve-making, sock-darning, pie baking home-body. That way you could avoid the scary world of working, voting, politically involved women. Maybe you could even find one of those women to share her paycheck with you. Remember to lose the apron, and pretty yourself up when she pulls into the driveway at the end of the day though. Cooking, cleaning and tending the garden aren't really enough, if you want to ensure she never leaves you for her secretary.

Working women - We can work, cook, clean and still be ladies!
WOW! #1 do you mean suffragette's??? I am a 20th century woman that works, crochets, takes care of her house, works on cars, raised a child and all without a man and I do not drink or fight or binge. Are you stuck in the 19th century???

Not wanting to be rude, but don't you think that you may have been hanging around wrong people? Alternatively, are you playing the "devils advocate"?

yrdid1, my hat is off to you. You make a sexist statement and state that you're not being sexist right in the same sentence! :) It's a brilliant technique, as it leaves anyone who might disagree your view, without any leverage. Perhaps you intended to write, "...women CAN BE loud, vicious etc." instead of "...woman ARE loud, vicious etc."? At any rate, I'm looking forward to the delivery of my Yamaha, now that I've got my head out of the sauce and my propensity to commit verbal and physical assault under control. (Heh, heh)

Haha, what a stupid idea! Embroidery!:) I think that the real modern woman must be balanced between the two extremes:she is neigher a slave of her hubby and home, nor a noisy feminist! There are many women who are enough good in their profession and education, but have their good families too.

Pain in the butt eh? Let's see what cliches I can come up with that shoots your theory down. Behind every great man there is even a greater woman. She used her wiles and with her body purchased security for a country. Cleopatra Selene of Egypt Thy tapestries, emboirdery and loom keep the cold at bay from these weary bones. Richard the First to his wife. She took up the ram and loaded the cannon when her husband fell. Her efforts help save the day. Of Molly Brown Revolutionary war heroine. I did not kill my parents. Elizabeth Borden Isn't it strange that long before equal rights, the right to vote, the right to own property was granted that women fought to preserve a country, fought to free a people, supported their men and leaders and also may have killed for reasons known only to themselves. Today's woman often supports a family with no aid, or contributes earnings for the improvement of the family fortunes. Women weren't made to walk behind men, nor infront of them, but beside them equal in every way. So, if you would like women to return to their embroidery, I suggest you start purchasing a lot of it, simply because the standard of living will fall as surely as the earth revolves around the sun. It is neither better nor worse than in times past, only different.

Great psychology - make a controversial statement and wait for the avalanch of responses. I find it hard to believe you really believe that all women are worse than all men, or that you really believe you would be better off if all women did what they were told. Think about it. You have benefitted from women who are assertive, bright, sometimes even aggressive to make a positive difference in your world. Good luck on myLot.
