negative to positive

Can anyone tell me how I can convert photo negatives into positives? I read a blog which said to make them grayscale and then usr a graphics program to colour them. I have tried several programs but still keep getting negatives, just in different hues.

You can scan them in using a negative scanner, or take them to a photo development place where they can scan them and theyll come out positive. The only other thing I can think of is scanning the negative and inverting it in photoshop, but this doesnt work well with color film, because some of the colors can shift and then you end up having to do color corrections and other headache stuff.
