I stopped wearing raincoats when I was in younger. I prefer the umbrella because it is more compact and easier to carry around...it is, however, easy to lose too! LOL. In my case, I probably would have been better off with the raincoat because all the umbrellas I had to buy to replace my lost ones...lol.

When i was a kid my parents forced me to wear raincoat but i really hate wearing raincoats at that time and i don't wear these days also. I know its much more better than umbrella but i don't like our whole body covered by that shabby raincoat, i mean am a lasy so i think its more fashionable to carry a fancy umbrella lozzz. You guys won't agree with me here but thats what i think.

I like raincoats and jackets with a hood. I seldom have a free hand for an umbrella. So I rather put on a raincoat or jacket to protect myself from the rain. and I hate the drying umbrellas put in bathtubs. I rather hang up a wet jacket.

I cannot carry Umbrella as I have to ride the bike. I got a rainsuit, which I can wear instantly on my dress. the suit consists of a pant with elasticated rib and a coat with hood. 100% water proof.

I prefer umberella's because:
1) They are more fashionable that raincoats.
2) Hoods of raincoats frequently blow off.
3) They are small and compact, so you can carry one wherever you go, so you are always prepared for the change of weather,

Umbrella. Unless you like bundling up in coats and jackets. I get hot when I'm walking to lectures with a backpack full of books, and sometimes like to take of a layer, not add one. I have two umbrellas, folding if I know we will just have a few showers or some light rain, so I don't have to carry a sword. I use a wind resistant golfing umbrella if it is a thoroughly wet day. My feet and lower legs still get wet. My shoes are sort of shower proof, but unplesant if they soak through. I tend to wear shorts on wet days to counteract this, if its not horribly cold.
If I'm on my bike, I tend to go when the forecast is clear. In summer, I wear a top that dries easily and lycra shorts, which I change out of when I stop cycling. If you cycle you're going to get wet from sweat anyway, so a little rain water won't hurt. As the temperature drops, or if its windy, I add a raincoat then waterproof trousers.
