I nursed my first child for twenty-four months and my second child for sixteen months (had to stop because I had to receive medical treatment that would have harmed him). Anyway, I researched this topic thoroughly on the Internet, in the library and with my doctor while I was pregnant with my first child. The health benefits far out-weighed that of bottle feeding, including beyond the first year, so it only made sense for me to choose this option. My doctor was a huge support in terms of diet during the entire process and encouraged me to continue as long as I could. Toward the end with each, I pumped so it wouldn't become an inappropriate situation and my doctor taught me the best ways to store and, based on their age and development, how to serve.

I have two boys, my oldest I nursed until he was nine months old, and he weaned himself, my youngest I nursed until he was 6 months old and then he weaned himself. they both went to the bottle after that, using the cup here and there, until they were 1. I loved nursing, the bond that we shared while nursing was wonderful. I miss it, but I do enjoy the convienance of a bottle as well. I never have to worry about, if I can nurse where we are going, or if I'll be out in the van, nursing, while everyone else is enjoying thier dinner, and mine is going cold! But overall, I still miss nursing.
