BBC propogate Islamic deception

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/spl/hi/middle_east/03/islam_around_the_world/html/default.stm This page used to make the claim that Islam was the fastest growing religion in the world. I phoned the BBC objecting that in actual fact Islam is only the fourth fastest growing religion. Christianity being the first, Bahaism the second and Zoroastrianism the third. I just received a call from the BBC admitting that they were in error and stating that they had removed this bogus claim from their website. It just goes to show that if you repeat a statement often enough people will start to believe it! all the best urban

That shows how unreliable these news sources can really get. Who knows what other news they have given which were based on myths and roamers rather than facts and true information.

I would like to know how do you know for sure that the BBC has not been feeding you with baseless news other than the one you have pointed out. Or is it that all the other news is in accordance with your wishes and this one was against, so you had come up with your information and they had to accepot it because they had no proof whatsoever in support of what they had said.

It shows only that they were unreliable in this instance. To argue from this particular to a general principle is equivalent to a saying it shows that the UK media is pro-Muslim. all the best urban

That's great. But how did you convince the BBC people of the fact? What document have you based to prove your claim? Any way you did a great job. BBC is seen and read world over.Any information from such a media should be true and genuine. Congratulations, urban.

I merely challenged them to produce documentary evidence to back up their claim, which the couldn't or refute mine, which they couldn't all the best urban

That was fine. They published the information, so they should prove it's reliability. Well done.

I found similar claims on CNN, but again, no sources given. And to tell the truth, post Sept11, coversion to Islam in the USA and European countries have dropped by almost 90% (Globo almanac), and the fastest growing religion in the US (in terms of percentage) is Wicca -- a Neopagan religion that is sometimes referred to as witchcraft. Go figure. ---------------- ---------------- Veni, Vidi, Dormivi -JCM-

Good to hear that someone out there has some sense. (You) I am glad you took the time to contact the BBC about this egregious error. It is sad that they do not check their facts well enough before posting such ludicrous comments. They need to be aware that they need to check their words carefully as it is important for them as a media and news center to have only factual information. I hope they take more time in the future to check their facts and consider their sources. Western media should not propegate middle eastern propoganda. Good for you! Thank you for setting them straight.

I have no idea what the fastest growing religion is but at a guess I would have said Pentacostal/Evangelicalism, based on the fact that so many missionaries are in the developing world . Islam as far as I am aware, was spread through forced conversion in the context of war, mainly. But maybe a Muslim can enlighten us? Sorry slightly off topic I know, but Urban, why have you changed your avatar? The new one is nice but the old one was nicer.

Yes, I agree: it was always good to see your smiling face appear. You're right: Islam doesn't make many converts. They're nearly all forced to be Muslims for various reasons. And if they don't like the idea: off with their head!

And loosing millions a year in sub-Saharan Africa. Just fancied a change I guess and the Bluebells are out here. English bluebell wood in spring ranks with the most spectacularly beautiful in the world, at least in my opinion. all the best urban

Scary stuff, huh? Does the BBC have Islamic shareholders these days?

It's a shame that the BBC has gone down that road: they used to be a balanced organisation which supported Christianity in a number of ways.

The definitely have their own agenda, and are discriminatory. It was interesting to see how they have already decided that Gordon Brown will fail as PM for such and such reasons before he has taken up the office! And because they are so powerful no doubt that is a self fulfilling prophecy. all the best urban

Not shareholders but it's fashionable to attack Christianity and presumably they see this as, my enemies, enemy... all the best urban

That's interesting. I thought Islam was the fastest growing religion in the world as I have heard this from various separate sources. Maybe it's the biggest fastest growing religion. Besides, how does somebody measure that? Britain is often described as a Christain country but Church attendence is 5% or less. Plus you have to take into account the various forms and denominations of Christianity and Islam.

HAH! I thought it was true.. Yes, I have noticed how when things are repeated over and over, the majority seem to believe them as facts.
