Hi,
I got a Nikon Coolpix L3... Currently, I'm experiencing a big problem, there's nothing shown in the LCD... The problem is, there's no service center here in the Philippines. Some says that the problem maybe in the Lens or CCD... Can you give me some inputs about this?
Thanks,
Khalil

Hello,
Here are few things you can do to identify the issue better:
1. Does the camera still take pictures. If yes then i doubt the CC is bad. If NO then perhaps that is a problem.
2. Are you able to zoom in and out and able to take the picture, if YES then the lens if fine.
3. Most camera come with a option to switch off display to conserve battery, maybe the switch to put off display is activated, check for that switch.
4. The LCD screen maybe bad, if that is the case then it will definitely need servicing. Maybe should you evaluate the cost of repair versus new camera. Make sure you buy one with local service center.
If the camera is taking photos then and the display switch is fine then the screen is busted.
I hope this helps

Hello Ashutosh,
Thanks for your inputs. By the way, here's my answers to the issues you've stated:
1. The camera still takes photo but it is as if in a very dark room, which in my understanding, was the inside of the camera, I think in the lens dock???
2. I can zoom in/out (in the mechanism only. I notice that when I zoom in, there's some white pecks/dots, as if it have tiny holes.
3. This camera don't have the option to turn-off display because it don't have a viewfinder.
4. I've already inquired for the repair here in Philippines. Nikon don't have a service center in our country! They affiliated with Columbia Phils., but Columbia charge me for Php 6,000+ for the repair of the CCD and Php 9,000+ if the lens is the problem! If that's the case, I would definitely buy a new one (especially Canon, which have cheaper models but they have a service center here)!

Sorry to hear about the issues. Now it certainly sounds like multiple failures.
If you are considering Canon, then think about SD1000. I own one and great pics.
The new software in the camera has be ability to recognize faces and will concentrate on the faces to get a more clear picture.
It is a very useful feature.
Otherwise Canon in general is a good company.
All the best. Let me know if you need more help selecting a camera.
Regards
Ash

Thanks Ash, I will consult you if I will buy a new one, but for now, I can't because I don't have money to buy for it... And school is near.
Again, thanks.
