Beware of your Breadknife

This is another of those silly tricks that can get you hurt - I know! This morning I was making Bongs packing up and cut my lovely fresh homemade loaf. I cut it in a bit of a wedge so I laid it down and tried to thin it out - we've all done it. Bong spoke, I looked at him and took the ends off my middle and ring fingers. I ran them under the tap and holding my arm high applied pressure with a clean tea-towel. I now have 2 fingernails that I cut way too short along with my fingers which are numb, butterfly stitchs and lots of plasters. It's not long since I cut the index finger on that hand with a handheld blender. Please be careful with your breadknife! I know it sounds silly and obvious but you could really hurt yourself!

Oh, I am sorry you were hurt. But you are right you could really get hurt on a blade. It is not silly to recive a reminder about dangerous things. Sometimes we get so use to doing things (even dangerous things) that we think and that is when we get hurt. Thank you for the reminder.

I was lucky really a few butterfly stitches and 2 sore fingers, but it could've been a lot worse. I don't mind if it helps make my friends aware of how sharp kitcheny things can be! We all know how we should do things but it doesn't hurt to be reminded by someone elses messups rather than being the victim of a bad tempered breadknife.

Yep, I'm running out of fingers fast, the worst part is I can't play in the garden with sore fingers. I've bought the kids some mini garden tools so I plan on sharing those to make me safer on easier bits. I am really good about keeping the knives out of reach of the boys but it looks like they need to be out of reach of me too! Remember to be careful, I'd hate this to happen to you! love n hugs sweetie!

Thanks Grandpa Bob, you sound like my dad, lol, ooops sorry but you now what I mean, he's been out and got industrial sized cotton wool rolls to stop me touching anything too. I am a bit clumsy but that breadknife has had a taste of my blood a few times and I think it's war now! Just like to remind you all to take care when I do something stupid!

Too funny. I love thses type of discussions as it makes everyone aware that we all can do the stupidist and or silliest of things hurting ourselves. we just need to laugh it off and go about our daily routines afterwards. Thanks again. You've a smart father. I'd have made a 2 foot by 3 foot poster of my warning if it was me. Hahaha! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Yep, stupid and silly sums my day up quite well, still it could have been worse! I have to remind everyone because much as I only got butterfly stitches and plasters, someone else could be really hurt. A big poster of your comment in my kitchen might help or at least give me somewhere to throw the knife when it attacks me next, lol. Thanks Grandpa Bob!

Oh Rainbow, talk about rolling other people up in cotton wool - you seem to need it yourself, lol. Poor you. You got me holding my breath and digging my nails into the chair seat while reading this. I am thankful that it is no worse. Thank you for your warning though - I admit I am often complacent about the things I use which seem harmless until I get hurt. Got to keep reminding myself to concentrate on what I am doing especially when holding anything sharp. Hope the fingers will heal real soon and a big KISS for each of them. Hugs and more hugs.

Thanks honey, they're healing really well now, but still hurt if I catch them. It is easy to forget how dangerous the things we use all the time can be and I was lucky, it could have been far far worse. Think my ring finger may never be quite as round but I'm sure no-one else will notice. Take care honey, big hugs!

Ohhh Rainbow hon, that must have really hurt!! I've managed to slice myself with the Bread knife before, although nowhere near as bad as that, and I've also sustained a rather nasty cut from a pizza cutter too. It's common sense for people to take care when using knives, yet it's amazing how many don't seem to care and wield the things like plastic or paper. I do hope your fingers start to heal soon.

Thanks sweetie, it's not to bad unless I catch them, but I had to remind my friends how easy it is to hurt ourselves for a moments innattention. A pizza cutter, bet that was really nasty! Please be careful my darling!

You're right, my knives live in a vase on the windowsill behind the sink, I have to stretch to reach them and the boys can't without climbing. I have been a bit cruel and kept showing them my fingers especially when they looked horrible and this has nicely reinforced my warnings about touching mummys knives.
