Compact Fluoresecent Light Bulbs

Several years ago, I switched out all my old incandescent light bulbs for compact fluorescent bulbs. I did this when I heard these light bulbs help the environment, save energy and save on the electric bill. Sure enough, my next month's electric bill went down by $30. Over the year, that has more than paid for the little bit extra I paid for the compact fluorescent bulbs, plus I purchased mine every time I saw them on sale. (You can get more information on these bulbs at www.environmentaldefense.org). However, the reason for this post is that I'd like to take this one step further by proposing that those of us who have already switched that we purchase one bulb to give to someone a little less fortunate, or even a family member that hasn't switched over yet. I'm a firm believer in every little bit helps a lot.

I've recently started to do this too. I've changed 3 bulbs already. I still have a bunch to go but I'm doing it in stages i.e. every paycheck so the cost is not too drastic. I plan to donate all the old bulbs I take out that are still good and I know someone else can use it.

Good idea. I switched quite a while back, also, and now that I have to pay my own electric bill for my apartment, I'm very glad I did. One benefit of CFBs don't doesn't get mentioned much is that because they're so much cooler than incandescents, they don't contribute to a house's or apartments's heat load. That means less need for air conditioning. In the summer, having the cooler bulb in a reading lamp that's right next to me is a big bonus.

What a good point that I didn't even think to mention. Those old bulbs sure got pretty hot, and if a child should happen to hit a lamp shad crooked...

That is a good idea. I have not used those kind of bulbs but will go to the link you have here and learn about them. I will have to try these bulbs and see what happens with my electric bill. Thanks for your post. It is a good one.
