I'm really not an awful person, or a vindictive one, but I am filled with joy at the news that Jerry Falwell is dead. I have never celebrated anyone's death... until today. His greedy, hypocritical, bigoted ways have harmed America more than anyone since the losers who shot RFK and MLK. He was an instrumental part of creating the meaningless, mindless din in American politics that drowns out any dialogue about the very real problems we face today. By whipping up the bigoted control freaks of the far right, he negated the influence of moderate religious leaders and created the national obsession with grilling every potential public servant on irrelavant minutuae of their personal lives while ignoring their positions on the real issues of the day. Look out, Lucifer, he'll be searching out all his Moral Majority pals who went to Hell ahead of him and staging a coup!

I know that Brother Falwell made a lot of people upset with him for several of the things that he said and stood for, including my husband I'm sad to say, but he was a true man of God. If a person doesn't stand up for what they believe in and if the Lord is leading them to say something but they don't say it then they are not following God's will and they are in the wrong then. I'm sorry you feel the way you do about him but I very respectfully disagree with you.

I'm not an american and I have no idea who this Jerry Falwell is, but I just had to 'shake your hand'. I really love it when people speak their mind without fearing the attacts from the other users (and yes they will come). Nicely done :-) + from me.

Scary, isn't it, how they can re-elect someone who wasn't elected the first time around?

I give you a plus for being outspoken on how you feel about Jerry F. I can say I have not been one of his fans or followers. I bet the people at Hustler will have a hay day with this in their next issue.

I don't buy them either. But my husband does and always tells me about the Jerry F. bit.

I was debating on creating a discussion about this today, but you beat me to it...LOL
Kudos to you for taking the words right out of my mind.
This man used his version and interpretation to numb the minds of many Americans that followed his ideology. He preached with a tone of hatred as he delivered his views, and it spawned followers that acted upon his hateful and intolerant supposedly righteous ways. He was not a visionary by no means, and he will be remembered for a legacy that divided the American people.

I will admit that he was very outspoken, but I truly believe that he loved the Lord and that he was truly doing what God called him to do. He wasn't perfect...no one is except the Lord Himself.
I believe he is in a much better place. He is with the Lord now and that is comforting knowlege.
God bless.

Springlady,
Sorry, but no where in what I said did I ever question his love for his religion or what he believed he was doing for his version of his religion. I also didn't say he was in a bad place now. I commented on how a good many (look at polls on this)American's will remember him--as a man who was often more isolating of his religion and more intolerant and hateful toward many and all in the name of his version of god...

Ouch, wow thats a ruff statement. I am opposed to the righteous conservative side but dont think I would go that far to say everything you have said. I would have to say as far as him passing let gods will be done, and sorry for his family and leave it at that.

There is also a female who is a regular on the 700 club. She reminds me of a fatter Hillary from the Fresh Prince show.
If you believe in what the bible says then you should not pass judgment.
You shouldn't be so hard on yourself. The only person holding you back is yourself. It isn't anyone's fault but your own.
A while back I started living life for me and it has been much better. I did what I wanted to do. Now I have my own company. I worked for it. It wasn't given to me. I dedicated many hours of my life to make it happen. If you don't apply yourself then you will never succeed.
There is a saying " He who dares wins." If you dare to succeed you will.

I understand you passion, but I find it misapplied. Since there is no Hell, there will be no punishment for Falwell, only the disillusionment that the reality he belived in is so small compared to the truth of all of it. I had to die 30 years ago to see that, and though I too have ranted against Jerry's BS over the years, I pray for him peace and understanding since his dreamed of pearly gates are not there for him. What does await, both for him and us, is something infinitely more fulfilling!

Good point, Bob! Maybe the absence of pearly gates will be hell enough, I can only hope...
