I need a radio or a tv on or people talking. Complete silence drives me nuts. I concentrate alot better with some kind of noise going on

i don't care about the noise, as long as i'm in the mood of study, that will be no problem. :D

It depends on how stressed I am and how important the studying is. I for one, hate silence for the most part, so I have to have alittle noise in the background so I don't go completely crazy. However, for the most part, I cannot stand a lot of noise when I'm studying, especially when I'm studying something major for something important. If I'm being constantly bothered, and loud music is blaring or something, I can't study. I'd have to go somewhere else or stop the noise so I could concentrate.

Im the type of person who study with a radio in the room. I hate it when its too quiet because i tend to get so sleepy and i cant even concentrate on what im studying. Ive done this for so many years specially when i was in college. I think it was a good way for me because ive been doing this and still make good grades.

For me, it depends on what I'm doing. If I'm reading, I need silence, but if I'm writing or editing, I tend to like something on in the background. But, I tend to prefer instrumental music - i find it harder to concentrate with anything on that has lyrics.

I used need complete silence to study because that's how I was brought up with. However, as soon as I hit high school and college, I started being distracted by the computer. Now the computer is a very wonderous thing. You can chat online, surf the internet, and listen to music at the same time. So I started multi tasking and soon was able to do homework while doing the internet and chatting as well. Soon after, music added on and suddenly one day, I found that I was able to study with a lot of noise around me. In fact, I don't know if I can revert back to the times before when I had no noise. Household noise also kind of interfered during that time and I just got used to the noise. I only turn off all music and study without distractions if the thing I'm studying is completely and utterly indecipherable to me and that i need 150% of my brain power to figure it out or to memorize something. I also realized that when I could listen to music while studying, I can also read while listening to music too, like I can hear the whole song and yet my mind is still reading and "picturing/imagining" what is going on in the book I'm reading. It's really freaky/weird at the same time.

well i can study in both the conditions.but i like a little noisy environment over a very silent one because i feels wierd when its totally silent.i feel like i am the only one alive .but the noise should never go over the top.

Well it's depend what kind of lesson is that. If it's my favorite lesson, then even it is so much noise in my arround I think there can't be my problem. But otherwise if the lesson is so difficult and so boring I think even there is no sound arround me I won't able to concentrate very well.

I can work in most enviornments. I kind of block out everything when I'm concentrating, so it doesn't matter either way.

No, i can't study at all at silence situation. Weird though, but I only able to study with some music on. Not too upbeat but it enough to make me sing a long. And believe or not, I can memorize a lot when there are some music on.

I can study and quiet and noisy environments, but I prefer the silent ones to avoid distractions.
Must tell I was raised this way, the tv had to be off while we were studying. Then I learned to adapt and even enjoy some music while studying and reading. It's like a break that helps you to go even further.
