I am totally terrified of the dentist. Just entering the door makes my knees fold and I start to shake.
I do not understand where this fear is coming from since I have never been through anything with the denist, never had a whole in a tooth, never pulled one...
I do need to go there now. When I was there the last time they had to put me to sleep and they actually have told me that i need a root-canal (however that spells) done and I horrified.
I learned this a while ago and I was supposed to be back a week later but i cancelled out of fear..
So what do you think of the dentist? Are u scared? Is it a piece of cake for you? have you had any good or bad experiances?

Oh how I hate the dentist, I had braces on my teeth from the time I started junior high school (5th grade) until the end of my senior year (I know, very long) and by the time I got out of them I have always hated going to the dentist, I go when it is necessary, but other than that I avoid them like the plague. The worst time at the dentist is when I had some periodontial work done and they can only do one side at a time, it is extremely painful during and especially afterwards and when you leave the office they give you pain meds (it is that bad), but the worst part is they make an appointment when they finish the first side to do the other side, you are like "no way am I coming back for such abuse" but you kind of have to cause they have only done one side of your mouth, and you know how much pain it is going to be since you have already experienced it, so I found that the worst experience ever in my long history of dental visits.

Yeah I am a fainter also, I do it all the time, but the worst thing was when I was child I was allergic to the novenecane (think that is misspelled) but needless to say I would be very sick for the entire day when they would give me that, my only other option was not to take it, which I am a wimp and can't handle pain either.

I wish you could see my dentist! He is really good and makes you feel very comfortable.
There are so many people who have the same fear. Some would much rather go to their gyn than their dentist! Some people just don't like having someone working around in their mouths.
I really like my dentist. I've been going to him all my life and he is funny and really puts you at ease.
Does your dentist offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas)? I have had that whenever I needed a filling or any kind of extensive work. It really helps!

I cant stand the dentist AT ALL...for me its a trigger type thing...I dont like being trapped in the chair with a strange man hovering over me putting something in my mouth that I dont want there..IN fact it was so bad of an experience for me I refused to go to the dentist for many yrs unfortunately....but I just couldnt bring myself to do it, I'd have panic attacks just thinkin about it...and regular doctors werent much better for me actually

Oh my goodness, marie. You are hurting bunny here. I happened to be a graduate in Doctor of Dental Medicine, LOL! You are not the first poster I encountered who have this great fear of dentist. I suggest you talk with your dentist about this unexplained fear. He/she will know what to do. Don't let the fear overruled your senses.

I know people are supposed to visit the dentist regularly but i didn't. It's not that i'm afraid but it's just that my parents didn't bring us there much when we were kids so i didn't get the habit of visiting the dentist. As a consequence, i had a lot of problems with my teeth. I had to get tooth filling for i think eight teeth. I had to do it for me to get accepted for the job i was applying for. At first i was anxious to visit the dentist because the last time i had a tooth extraction (that was when I was just 8 yrs old) it really hurts while the dentist was pulling my tooth away. However, when i had my teeth cleaned and filled up because of cavities I realized it's not that bad at all. I felt a little pain but it's nothing that a grown up can't handle. My last visit to the dentist was when I broke two of my teeth and I had to get the rest of it extracted. It didn't hurt at all. So don't be afraid to go to the dentist, ok

I had a very traumatic experience when I was 12 at the dentist. My step-mother worked for him and told him to do the fillings without any pain medication because it would teach me to take better care of my teeth. As crazy as it sounds he agreed they basically tied me to the chair so I couldn't leave.
Now I am 30 and I have to have my husband hold my hand and get the goofy gas just to have a basic examine. But I just force my way through because I know that in the long run you do have to take care of your teeth.

I am getting worse about going to the dentist. I had to have a root canal a few weeks ago and it really wasn't bad!! I was terrified but it turned out to be no big deal. I just lay there and try to relax.

Yes I am scared. Scared of the money I need to spend, that is. As long as you pay regular visits to the dentist, your teeth should be fine. With brushing and flossing on your own of course. :P

Dentists = pain. Intense pain, real or imagined, for some, + needles in your mouth.
I used to be vedry afraid of denrtists umtil I found one who would give me nitrous oxide to mitigate or eliminate the pain.
