Still Working Full-Time at the Age of 88!

I read a very inspiring profile in the paper on Sunday about an 88-year-old woman who still teaches high school fulltime! And she's certainly not doing it for the money as she married into wealth. She still teaches because she is so PASSIONATE about it. Here is a quote from her: "You either live living or you live dying, and I'm not going to die." I'm always enormously inspired by stories like hers. She is still vigorous, healthy and mentally sharp. Do you suppose her passion has something to do with her longevity? Does her passion and sense of purpose keep her healthy? Are you or do you know of any people who are way past the age of retirement yet still work fulltime? Do you work in a job that you love so much that you plan on staying with it beyond your retirement? Or maybe you have a hobby that you are passionate about? And you cannot wait to retire so you can devote yourself to it fulltime? If you have stories or comments to share, I'd love to read them.

I know a woman who is 75 years old...and honestly, that woman probably has more energy than you and I together! LOL She still works part time, is always on the go doing things...she's such a joy to be around, and so much fun...quite a difference from my mom who passed away last summer...who was the complete opposite..she was the exact same age as this woman, Vi, yet believe it or not I think my mother started getting "old" by the time she hit 55! I think it's one's outlook in life that keeps one young at any age--after all,..there are some people who are old at twenty!

Isn't that the truth about some people being old at twenty! I never get tired of hearing about people like the woman you mention. It always inspires me. They are truly a joy to be around. And a blessing.

Thank you for this post, God bless this woman. Working full time at nearly 90 years old what an accomplishment! It may have been due to her longvity, she is determined, passionate, and dedicated and obviously she looks forward everyday to going to work. My grandpa worked part time til the age of 81, he had pretty good money in the bank but wanted to work more so that when he passed on he knew my grandmother (his wife) was well taken care of and could live comfortably without worries.

It really is a wonderful accomplishment. I'm also inspired by the story you share of your grandpa. I always enjoy hearing about decent and honorable people.

I am currently working with a wonderful woman who is the assistant manager of where I work at. She is in her late 70's and just full of life! She is on the go all day long and is just the sweetest person I could ever meet! I enjoy working with her and working for her. I think it is great that they keep working and find purpose in life, it is what keeps you young at heart! This woman never misses a day of work, her work ethic is inspiring!
