I've found that it's much harder to be a sahm than to work outside the home. I've had a really stressful, demanding job before I had my lo, but nothing as demanding as being a mom AND wife 24/7. I love it, but it's way harder than working for anyone else, and MUCH more demanding too. What about you?

I work outside of the home and I think they are both equally demanding. Being a mom is 24/7 whether you work outside of the home or not. If my son is teething and up all night I still have to wake up at 6am to get ready for work. I don't have the option of sleeping until he wakes up. If he's sick then as a mom I still stay home and take care of him. I love how SAHM's are quick to say that working moms get a break.... WOW, that's a little harsh if you ask me. I get more of a break when i'm home with my son on then weekends then on work days. Being a mom is hard. PERIOD. A SAHM does not work more then WOHM. They both are hard work and equally demanding.

I think what sahm's mean is that when you go out to the 'real world', you get to have a 'baby' break. You get to talk to adults, even if it is in a stressful environment. And I agree that they are both demanding, in obvious ways.

It is much harder to be at home 24/7. At least in a job you get a break for crying out loud! I guess it comes down to what you prefer as compensation... money or a smile.... idle gossip or a "mommy, thats a sneaky fox!" (Dora)

Good questions, i think it really does come down to those two options.

Im a stay at home mom and I have been for almost 4 years now..they day I found out I was pregnant I quit my job because I have always known I wanted to stay home with my kid. From being home all day with a child I would have to say being a stay at home mom is way harder by far. We do not get sick days, we dont get any breaks ..only if the child is sleepin & even then your doing the chores you couldnt do while they were awake., and most importantly we dont get paid. I understand thats a choice we made but I would have to say us SAHM's are really gettting paid in another way because we get to see our children every moment of life and never miss out on the new things they learn.

I agree that we get paid in different ways. And probably the best way ever, with a smile or with touch that says 'thank you for comforting me'

I think that staying at home is the best option. this way you dont really have to worry about whether or not your children are well taken care of.

I think it's the best option for SOME parents, not all of them. There are some great parents that can't or won't leave their careers and I don't think that makes them bad. I think each situation is different and we shouldn't 'judge' by them by their choices because we don't know what their situation is.

Being a SAHM IS the hardest job I have EVER had, even harder than being in charge of 300 people and their schedules/benefits/attendance etc...As a SAHM have a constant responsibilty 24/7, there are no breaks, there are no adult converstaions or work relationships to get you by. The work never stops, the diapers have to be changed, laundry always has to be done and dinner has to be made..In my case, I also work from home, so I am working on nap time...so when does the house get cleaned? Dunno, I just manage to do things VERY fast :) BUT there is NOTHING out there that is more rewarding! I cannot stand the thought of sending my son to daycare...or having someone else watch his first steps or saying a new word for the first time :) I am his mommy, and I should be here. Realizing that not all mommies have the same option as I do...I do not take it for granted for a minute. Even through all the trials and tribulations, not to mention the tears, I wouldn't change this opportunity of being a SAHM for anything!!

Thanks so much for your comment. I couldn't agree more with you. I could have NEVER prepares enough to be a mommy. You're a mom 24/7 and sometimes you're the only one that can do things for them....it's soooo overwhelming, but sooo rewarding too. Thanks for sharing. =)
