My two coworkers are the absolute worst. The one has her cubicle right beside mine and the other girl will come over and you can hear their hushed voices. It drives me insane, because they both strike me as extremely gossipy women, so I KNOW they're gossiping, since they talk about work in normal voices othertimes. Who are they trying to kid? Why do people do that? They could just as easily walk into another room and talk in normal voices and then the people around them wouldn't feel so awkward. Does it drive you nuts when people whisper around you?

well, some of my coworkers whisper because the information is sensitive, for instance, someone just tendered his resignation and not many people know about it yet so they don't want to spread it too far. but i agree that whispering is annoying. esp since you can hear the whispering but not the words. so it's like you know someone is deliberately trying not to share information with you. but then again, sometimes gossip happens out loud. not sure if that is always preferred, haha!

Yes, I find it very rude and also very disrespectful. They are being disrespectful not only to the one about whom they are gossiping but to you by putting you in such an awkward situation! Perhaps they should concentrate more on getting their work done and less on other people's business!

Yeah people whispering in front of you can be distracting more than annoying. I ignore such gossips and gossip mongers as i have more important tasks to do in my life to be wasted thinking about them. LOL. Really one should have no nonsense attitude in life that is much better.

Yes that and speaking in another tongue within ear shot of your co-workers. My partners mother tongue is Spanish and her supervisor is also the same. She has told me that they communicate a lot in Spanish and I told her that is not a good idea within ear shot of her coworkers. I told her how much I do not care for it. She told me that she feels that she can express her self better. We work in a predominate English speaking company. I understand her point but others can feel uncomfortable. She said that she has had comments how much that her co-workers find her language most enjoyable?

OH YES!!!! I hate it so much. I've left a few jobs because of it and I let my supervisor know it too. But it never stops. They may not be talking about you (and they may) but it's SOOOOOO RUDE! If you can't say it out loud, go somewhere else or maybe save it for email or conversation on the phone at home.

It doesn't bother me, but it does look ridiculous when they do that. I think they really just want attention. I don't pay much attention to them, but I always think it could be funny if I just go over and stand close to them and look as if they were talking to me. They'd probably shut up real fast.

It's annoying to have some people next to you talk to each other in whispering voice. It seemed like they are talking about you, even if it's not. They should be looking for more private room, to talk about other people. If I was on that condition, I will walk away from that room. Can't stand it at all. I never talk to my friends in front of other people with whisper kind of voice. It's rude.
