i tried vista , it is so wonderful , with it colours and back ground and screen saver , really it so beautiful but i return back to XP because i felt that it is slowing my PC , but it was great , i download it from softbedia.com , but also you can choose what to download from it , it is not necessary that you download it for your system , you can just choose the view .

Well I was also very excited abiut vista and vent on to spend 200$ to upgrade my computer to be able to run vista with full features enabled. But after my experience i may tell you, its not worth it.
Cons
1. User Interface is a bit complex
2. Vista is very resource hungry.
3. Many Programs Still Have Compatibility Issues.
4. Sometimes the explorer stop responding without any reason and after one or two minutes automatically becomes normal again. (Very Annoying)
Pros
1. User Interface is beautiful and the dreamscenes feature brings a lot of life in the desktop background.
Conclusion : - Its a decent OS, but we should wait around 6-8 months more before upgradation so that you can get more compatible programs, small bugs are removed and definetly if you don't have a dual core cpu don't go for vista without an an CPU Upgrade.

Windows XP has been refined into a very stable, reliable OS for just about any job you could need it to do. It may be many months before anyone can say that about Vista.

xp is better because vista has many problems. Wait a year or so then buy vista, it should be great.

Vista is very pretty, other than that I am not sure of the rest of the pros other than it is suppose to be more stable and more secure. The problem is not all of your older programs are going to be vista ready, and there will be several patches as there was with XP, so for me I will be waiting until the bugs and kinks are worked out before I upgrade. Vista also requires better memory and a stronger processor. So for older machines Vista with all its bells and whistles will lag some and not run as smooth. It's defiantly a good OS but as with all windows to date will need improving yet.

In fact, I have never used vista yet... It is just too expensive.
I asked some friends who have Vista and they told me that vista is better but it is not worth it's cost.
Altough vista is newer and better, I prefer to stay with Xp for now, until the price of windows viste will be cheaper and than I will buy it.
I think that about 2 years from now, evrybody will use the Vista version like that now we all use Windows XP and not 98'.

I use XP because i do not have the opportunity to use Vista, my computer cannot comply with vista requirement. I think eventhough vista is offering good security than xp, i still prefer xp due to speed consumption. I have read some people who had converted into vista, and they returned back to xp. I am not sure what's the real problem.

I am currently using xp and will be getting a vista laptop at the end of the week. I think that you should not get vista unless you are going to buy a new pc because the upgrade is hard to do. Go to the microsoft website to see all of vista's new features. It will make you really want to buy a pc with it. I have read reviews where a p4 with 512 ram runs vista much faster than it did xp. But i have also read reviews where vista could not be installed on a new machine, that is why i recommend getting a pc with vista preinstalled.

I am pretty sure that you will not experience nearly as many problems as others if you do this. I am getting a vista pre-installed laptop next wednesday. I will replay to you and tell you whether it works fine or not.

I agree with your friend. With Microsoft OS's releases the best choice you have is to wait and see. U see with XP there already resolved issues. With Vista, well u might just be one to discover em.

I've been using Vista for several months now. When I first got it, it was really annoying. I had some major compatibility issues with games and other programs. My printer didn't work at all with Vista and Lexmark had no plans on making a new driver. A lot of my games would mess up because of a bad graphics card driver. Nvidia's new driver seems to have fixed the problem. I like the interface a lot. It reminds me a lot of Mac OS X but better. The OS is a lot more secure than XP, but there are a lot of annoying security messages. I had to disable them finally. So, in short if you're looking for a better interface and more secure operating system consider upgrading. But honestly unless you're just someone who likes to be an early adopter I would wait to upgrade. They are still getting a lot of bugs out.
