Generally speaking you can. The PC2700 is backward compatible with the slower speeds (but you will only get the PC2100 speed out of it).

According to http://www.crucial.com/kb/answer.asp?qid=4003 they are compatible. I don't see an issue with you using one in the other.

So it shouldn't cause any software issues. What about drivers does RAM need a driver for it to work? Or do I just need to pop the stick onto the port and we are off? If you can't tell I have never upgraded RAM before. Also with the base system running with PC2100 will I get the full 256 megs out of the PC2700?

I am not sure I would call you a geek there Bro.(besides you are big enough to hurt me...ha ha ha) Anyway I had forgotten how much you know about computers when I posted this discussion. That and I didn't think you would be available for a phone call around three in the morning(your time) but I promise if it is not too late I will try to run my questions by you before admitting to the world how illiterate I really am when it comes to computers thanks again.

What kind of upgrades are you doing? Are you upgrading the operating system, other software, or actually upgrading the hardware inside the computer? I would be able to better answer your questions with this knowledge.
