with singapore is prepararing to host the first ever night race of F1,concerns are being voiced already on the safety of such races. With cars speeding at more than 300 km per hour, even drivers like alonso are raising the issue. So are night races really endagering the drivers or can they be safely hosted.wat's ur pick?

My take is that the Singapore government has definitely thought of this problem before they signed the contract. For me, I am worried for the drivers. However, I believe the government will not sign the contract and yet take such a huge risk involving safety. In the first place, they wanted F1 to be in Singapore to boost the tourism industry. And, with us being such a 'safe' country, it would be extremely damaging to our reputation if there is a major accident. So, I believe, with much faith in my government, that the drivers won't be endangered. Night races? Maybe they will become more of a standard race in future. Since Singapore is also always known to be the pioneers in many things. So, no surprises, Singapore being the pioneers of F1 night races. Ha!

yeah, sure. F1 drivers have never driven by night :/ and they won't practice for singapore. it will be a race "at the first sight" ... get real. it will be tough for them. but F1 isn't for the not strong people, you know.

Well, I beg to differ. F1 racing demands maximum concentration. Furthermore, if the championship race is very tight, Im quite sure the teams would be really preparing hard for the first night race. These points concern the sponsors and companies a lot of money, perhaps even involving millions. So, to ensure they can win races, moreover the first night race, be assured that they will in one way or another, prepare. It will not be a touch and go senario. Indeed, it will be a very tough race. But, F1 racers are some of the world's best racers. So, of course they will definitely be ready for the challenge. Likewise for the world today, new challenges keep popping out and we can only try to fight the challenge. This is how the world progresses. Apply the same logic to F1 racing and voila! The drivers will be prepared for the night race. In future, the night race will just be a norm and who knows, something more challenging might come out again for F1 racing. So, the race will be difficult, but managable, for the F1 drivers.

From what I understand... the F1 cars will not have any lights, so the circuit would have to be brilliantly lit for visibility and other stuff... so the night thing will be only for atmosphere, tv ratings and selling large amounts of tickets :P. In conclusion the main reason are the money... Anyway I look forward to it...

Floodlights of today provide near daylight like conditions. Besides, in several races, F1 drivers have driven in poor light and in rain, and in contrast with that, the light conditions will be far better, thanks to the floodlights. I have been to cricket stadiums where floodlights are used. The lights are very bright and the visibility is very high. Cars don't need to have lights. The available light will be more than sufficient. It does seem to be a very exciting prospect. Thanks to all the stupid rule changes that the FIA have made over the past couple of races, interest has been dwindling in F1. This might just be the dose of excitement that the sport needed to sustain interest of viewers of the sport.
