do we watch too much television these days?

my guess is that everyone reading this post has a tv set. let me know if you don't, and why you don't. i think we watch too much tv these days. it's so easy to go home, switch on the tv, and let your brain absorb everything the tv feeds you. the media moguls are thus the most powerful since they determine what goes into your homes. i guess the baser instincts in man also determine that since viewership rating also determines what sells, and thus what gets on tv. a vicious cycle eh? do you limit your watching of tv, or just indulge in it without thinking of the effects? sometimes i feel tv tries too hard to appeal to the lowest common denominator. but i still watch it so oh well.

Yes, we have a tv and a very good one at that. You are right, it is sooo easy to get addicted to it. But I have restricted tv watching to one hour each day for my kids. My teenager son still watches cartoons. My teenage daugher likes comedy serials, but about soaps, it is strictly NO NO. In my opinion it brainwashes you completely.

Not me, I watch it less and less. There are just to many other things that are more important. When they start putting on some real quality, I might watch more. There are some great shows (none on the networks channels) but overall, I don't need it. And if you figure that watching 5 hours of TV exposes you to about 1 1/2 to 2 hours of commercials, that is a waste of time, period.

I do watch some television but not a lot. I usually have about one or two shows that I enjoy, and right now, I only really watch one regularly. I have several reasons for not watching a lot of television. Number one, I do not like to feel like an inanimate object has that much control over me and the more we watch, the more compelled we are to pass up dinner with a friend, or not answer the phone, or stay in instead of taking that walk because we don't want to miss the next episode. I also like to limit the number of televisions in one house. I am not fond of a tv in the bedroom, even though my husband and I do have a small screen dvd player in the room. Its more for when one of us is sick and stuck in bed. But I think a television in the bedroom eliminates quality time that you could spend talking or being intimate with your spouse. Television tends to take over a household if not handled responsibly.

I don't think there is a such thing as too much television for an adult if that is what he/she enjoys as long as it doesn't interfere with responsibilities. Life is way too short to worry about that. If that is your enjoyment, then do not feel guilty and enjoy your entertainment like those who are entertained by other things.

i usually only watch the hong kong on tvbj whatever is showing i'll just watch coz it's the time i catch up with my parents and spend time with them but they are retired so by watching the same drama with them we can have some common topic if i'm alone, i'd rather surf the net or read a book the only two shows i will watch is House and Dr Martin :)

We only watch movies that we either taped or have bought. We canceled our cable service several months ago and don't miss it much at all. I think people do watch too much TV and it has made us lazy in that we don't know what actually goes on in the world other than what some talking head with an agenda tells us. To us the cost of the cable was not worth what few shows we actually wanted to watch.

I watched the TV just to realease my tension. I watch TV usually after back from work or at night before I went to sleep. On average, I might spend just about 1-2 hours per day watching TV. Maybe a lot more on the weekends because I will never miss English Premier League especially when myfavorite team Man Utd play
