I´m of an opposing view. I have always used my picture and name on the internet, and anyone going to my sites can easily know a lot about my life.
Internet anonymousity creates a protection by which most use to behave like, pardon my French, d*cks, and I´d rather avoid that.

It really doesnt make a big difference to me. I dont need to see who it is im responing to. Sometimes I like to see what kinda pic a person will put up. Me I always put my pic up because well im a model and love to keep my face out there at all times. Some people dont want there face out there everytime they have something to say.

Well, I wouldn't say that it annoys me, although my curiosity does get the better of me sometimes, in which case I would probably ask the person for a photo so I can put a face to the name, or username in most cases, but it's not that important to me. I would rather prefer to know the real name of the person instead of knowing what they look like. That's more important to me..
I don't mind putting my photo up here, I like the way I look, but I just love my avatar, so I can't part with it.. but I did put my picture in my profile, just if any one is curious and I have no problems telling anyone my real name either, which by the way is Saba. I guess it's not so much that people like to hid behind avatars or usernames, but it is easier to be yourself when you've got a disguise on, isn't it? I guess that's why most people use these avatars and usernames...

Well I don't really care who is the one behind an avatar since I'm not that type of person that would want a too close personal connection with someone over the net. What is important is that we are having a good exchanging of ideas, beliefs, and opinions, thus creating a healthy discussion and informative conversation.
But when I feel someone is wanting more, then it is the time that I need to extend more. Its really depends on the character and the situation.

Well it doesn't bother me in the slightest urban! As a woman who once suffered quite badly at the hands of a "stalker" I met on the Internet, I am understandably wary of letting people I have never met see my photo, and plastering it all over the Net. And I understand any other person (especially a woman) who feels the same way. Obviously, over time, when you become more friendly with certain people, and perhaps exchange private emails, then exchanging photos is a good way to get to know people better, but I don't think it's necessary in everyday usage at MyLot or similar sites. There are sadly, far too many "crazies" out there, who may see a photo of a woman, become attracted or perhaps even fixated, and start harrassing her, and I would rather keep away from all that until I really trust someone. And besides, my love for my cats is very much part of me and who I am, and think having my beloved Sasha on my avatar expresses me and my views very well.......... not forgetting he is far more beautiful than I am!!!

No I don't feel that way. I do like to know what people look like but I don't feel like anyone is hiding. I don't want people to see me as I gained weight and I don't like the way I look.

well as a matter of fact I am not so strict about seeing the face of my friends here..I think that one of the things that help us expressing our thoughts here is that we can be ourselves without the boundaries of cultural, religious and even physical features..so maybe at first this is one of the things that make this place fascinating. But I am quite disappointed when people don't choose an avatar..because I regard avatars as faces..I mean they are the personal shape we choose to have here..and I like recognising my friends via them..for example..today I need a little to get accustomed to your new face here...he, he, he...I was used to see my young 87 years friend's face smiling at me with the sun in his face..but i find this flowers you chose so wonderful..I am so keen on...flowers!!!

Ha,ha,ha! It is sooooooooo funny you should start this discussion after changing your picture with the lavender, which, by the way is gorgeous - not that your picture was bad ;)!
Simon, it doesn't really matter to me to start with, as I create mental pictures of the people I discuss with depending on their opinions and answers; it is like reading a book and making your own characters...
However, once I get to know someone better, I'd like to know what they really look like but, if they don't feel like sharing their picture, I understadn that too; after all many people choose to make friends online for teh very reason that they do not want to be too personal and I respect that.
