I use Nikon D-4500 digital camera. It is a 4 mega pixel camera with 4x optical zoom.
Recently I have compares its picture quality with some sony 6 mega pixel models.
What I felt is the image quality is same and in some cases Nikon performed better than Sony.
What is your opinion.

I'm betting the Nikon has a nicer lens than the Sony.
Megapixels don't make much of a difference in the smaller prints. I have a very nice 2 megapixel Nikon that is still a nice camera. It came out about 8 years ago now, but was $700 back then and is still very nice and better than a lot of the cameras out there.

unless you are going to enlarge the photo to at least 11 x 14 or crop the photo, you are not going to see any difference between 4 and 6 megapixels, it's just a marketing scheme. Most likely the Nikon does perform better sense nikon usually has better cameras than sony.

The quality of a picture doesn't always depend on the camera max resolution. The picture quality depends on the quality of the lenses, lighting, camera settings etc.
