I'm about to move house in a few weeks, and it is all going to be a very expensive activity. There are legal fees to pay, taxes, removals, plus new items and fittings we will need for the new house. Has anyone got any tips for saving money when you move? I've written out a budget and I'm trying to go through each item to see whether it is possible to cut the cost so I would love to hear your money saving ideas and tips!

You have probably already moved by now since this discussion is already 2 months old, but in case you haven't, you can often save money by getting family or friends to help you instead of hiring any type of professional movers. As for taxes, you really can't get out of them, and you really don't want to skimp on the legal fees or you may find yourself in legal trouble further down the road. You may be able to get by with less new items or fittings, and add more later on. Buying just what you need for now could save you money for now, but you will probably have to buy the things you need later on. Just don't skimp so much that it ends up costing you much more in the long run.
