I've recently seen a video recorded with a handycam about child birth and I have mixed feelings about this. Would you/ did you record on video when you gave birth to your child? What do you think about it? Would you want your child to watch that video? How would you feel if you saw your own birth? Please share your thoughts.

I myself have my childbirth recorded... I gave birth through caesarian operation... my kids was able to watch their coming to the world... I dont feel like sharing it to anybody but my kids... Its my way of reminding them that I really prepared welcoming them in this world and proud to give birth of them... My eldest(5 yrs old) asked me if shes really the baby with navel and came out of my tummy... In the recorded video... nothing undesirable can be seen since the nurse taking the video was instructed not to take sensitive shots... so its more of the coming out of the baby and the way the baby was treated after delivery. When I watch it, I still feel the same familiar feelings years ago when I gave birth... and its more like a miracle to me.

Thanks for your comment. It's nice of the nurse to be sensitive with filming. It's a miracle, true, but I imagine it also has lots of things that should be kept private.

We didn't record the actual birth of my children, but we did record the minute that they were out of me. They were all bloody ect....my husband then recorded them being cleaned up ect. It is neat because we have their first crys on tape. My kids have seen these videos, but as I said, they aren't the whole birth. I don't think there is anything wrong with people who record the whole birth. I would like to have been able to go back and see the birth. I think it is fine for kids to see this also. It is a natural process~ a miracle to share.

Not wrong, it's just that it looks so...scary and bloody. It is a miracle indeed, so I'm not judging people who record, but I guess I would prefer cute pictures rather than a childbirth video.

i think this is a to each their own issue. if someone feels comfterble having somone video tape down there and then let people watch it afterwards then they should have the right to do so. i'm sure to them it's a beautiful experience but i didn't tape mine. i had my daughter 3 months early so i wasn't prepared. i don't think i would of recorded it if i was prepared though plus the fact that i had a c-section wouldn't of been pretty recording. but if i would of had a natural birth i would of asked for a mirror to see the baby comming out but i'd probably never record something like that.

Thanks for your reply. Well seeing it yourself with a mirror is an experience yes, but still the operation itself seems bloody and I can't imagine me & my mother watching it together. It's my personal view, but it doesn't look right for me.

If I ever saw my own birth I would be completely disgusted - but thats just me - I can understand how others might be curious about the moment that they first saw the world. Most of these people would be girls, im assuming, because most guys would be grossed out by the idea of it. I personally wouldn't tape the birth. I dont see it as a "beautiful thing", its gross to me. I wouldnt' want to watch it.

I tend to agree with you. Whereas the birth of a child is something to be happy about, the medical operation itself looks bloody and in general not elegant. Not that I'm criticizing it, but it surely doesn't equate to recording your child's birthday party.

I have two children and both of their births were recorded over my shoulder. I wouldn't let them go "down there" for obvious reasons. I don't like those kind of videos where all is revealed at all.

I had my video camera all charged but forgot it. I would have love to taped it but wouldn't have the camera at my private. I would have taped as soon as he popped out and before of me in labour. I think it would be amazing to see after. I think your child would love to see as well, but not your private.

A bit unlucky I guess on your part. But honestly if I wanted to know what my birth looked like I'd go watch any birth, not necessarily mine. But hey, that's just me.

Maybe I would consider videoing a birth so long as "certain areas" are not shown. I mean certain private parts are private for a reason. lol. But I do think it would be a nice memento for baby if your careful about how it is done. Maybe during the labor and just after the birth.yeah. I think that is the route I would go.
