Women - know your place!

In my opinion, the idea of equality and feminism has been corrupted, and set back to an even worse place than before the times of the suffragists. The main culprits...? Women themselves!! If we want to be treated as equals, we need to start acting like adults, not conforming to the worst stereotypes of womanhood, and expecting to have our cake and eat it. Not only do "feminists" seem to want to either be men, or punish all men for life not being what we idealise it to be as children, but we set ourselves impossible goals (ie we seem to think we can be both high-powered businesswomen AND homemakers). Who here thinks that "feminism" is no longer what the Suffrage Movement set out to achieve, and is actually having a negative effect on both genders, psychologically, practically, and in terms of how we understand and relate to each other? Your thoughts, opinions and rants are all welcome!

As a man, I can only comment from the point of view of a potential rapist. I believe that many of the women who were at the forefront of the 60/70s feminist movement are now very wealthy, and have become a part of the very establishment they were fighting against, and are now happy to take the rewards. Germaine Greer is a prime example of this, and unlike the average lady in the UK, I bet her pay isn't 27% less than her fellow 'Newsnight Review' colleagues. It seems she now has an 'I'm alright Jack' attitude. The situation is not helped when the government gives a Cabinet post in charge of equality to Ruth Kelly, a member of Opus Dei, whose beliefs reinforce the woman as second class. How can she represent women fairly, when it clashes with her own beliefs?
The feminist movement seems to focus on stupid things, like not allowing a man to open a door for them, rather than the big issues; fair pay, fair job prospects, and the right to choose whether to have a career or be a homemaker!
Good luck to women, with people like Ruth and Germaine about, you'll need it.

Thanks Adrenochrome, excellent points and well-made! Thanks for your superb response, and here's to true equality and the fall of the opression of both genders. All the best to you, and sod those people who don't understand the difference between manners and condescension.
