as descriptive as possible doesn't rule the discussion in this particular case I guess... ;)
anyways...general topics are just that...generalized for general replies...
that's why they really do ring the bells..but the serious topics(I don't know the type of seriousness there though) will live there too..just create one to see me posting.. :P
okay...nevermind.

That's a hard question to answer. I think it just depends on how interesting the topic is whether serious or not. Yesterday, I posted a discussion on whether teachers should be paid based on their performance and have received a pretty good response (over 20 responses so far). General topics might be perferable because they are more flexible to respond to compared to very serious and highly specific topics. But then again, it may just depend on the crowd who is logged onto myLot at the current moment. I do like the fun and general topics though. One con with the general topics is that some have been discussed so many times, over and over again.
I can't really answer your questions....but I have rambled long enough! LOL
I hope you find your answer. :)

perhaps most of people dont want to think of something too serious, or they find it easier to post if you give out the general topics.

I agree with you! I have also posted serious discussions and got zero responce or only one!
I have seen that there are more people like us! And we also participate in general discussions and post responces well!
I HAVE ANALYSED THAT PEOPLE DON'T LIKE MUCH SERIOUS DISCUSSIONS!

Unfortunatly I do think that topics that have very little depth are more popular. I think that is primaly because people are sometimes afraid of offending others with there more serious points of view.

That's true, people seem to get easily worked up around here =/

Many people will not be able to answer to the discussions in certain fields, whilst the general topics are things everybody can answer. There's too few members along with a terrible way of truly keeping up with the serious discussions to get many responses to discussions like that at the moment.

A lot of times, if a discussion is too specific, many people can't answer it as they have no experience with the subject and can't relate. Sometimes, if the subject is really broad and open to interpretation, it will get a lot of responses, but it's not guaranteed. I just say post what you like to see answers to.

I find it difficult to find the serious discussions. I don't bother with the hot topics but by the time I have checked mine, tried to answer friends, and looked under ones from my interests, I usually find I have run out of time. I like to try and help the newbies but worry about their discussions being deleted. I see this was started 4 days ago and I have only just found it! I will look at your others. Best wishes.
