Why is there so much AOL Speak on MyLot?

You know... u for you and y for why and all sorts of shortcuts and grammatical atrocities. I think that it's fine if you're chatting informally with friends or family, but that's not what myLot is. From what I read when I signed up, myLot is a business dedicated to encouraging intelligent discussions. Since most people here are at myLot at least in part in order to make some money, shouldn't we hold ourselves to some sort of professional standard of writing?

I agree. Frankly, I've always considered AOL speak to be for kids. I think if you want mature people to read what you have to say, you should write it in a mature manner.
