Why would you ever hate doctors? Unless you had some horrible experience like a doctor touching you in the wrong ways when you were a child, there is absolutely no reason to hate them. Go see one. They'll help you. Without going to one, you will never know exactly what is wrong with your back. Never listen to friends, their pain can be one thing while yours could be several other things. Sharp pain could indicate serious problems. So go to a doctor. They are friends, not enemies. They will help your pain, and may save your life (lower back pain could be much more serious than a simple pinched nerve).

I once put my back out and I did it playing with my son so I was younger than you are and it was very painful. You have my sympathy because it can be hard to get rid of and you have to be really careful not to set it off again.
The main thing that helped me was putting heat on my back so at home I would always have a hot water bottle against the worse part of my spine and during the day I would put a heat patch on.
If you can get them where you are they are like a large square plaster that heats up on your skin and they stay warm for hours.
I hope you feel better soon.

I am almost 53 and suffer from DDD. DDD is degenerative disc
disease, My discs are rubbing against the spine deteriorating
the discs slowly. I use a moist heating pad to soothe the pain
I experience. They have heating pads with the sponge like pad
for moist heat. It does wonders for my pain.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Augusta, very sad to hear about your back pain. I also do not like to go to the doctors, but if things go wrong we have to go for some expert advice. Actually you raised the issue here in hope of getting some advice no? If you can ask for all our opinions why cannot you go to an expert. There could be defferent causes for the pain. If the body weight is exessive such pain could be developed. Women loose a lot of calcium along with menstural discharge. This causes weakness to the skelital system generally and the vertibral column in particular. Every friend can give you different opinion. But it is not safe to follow their advice. Not only that, after this discussion you will find that there are so many opinions. You will be confused of which one to select.
So my advice is to decide upon an expert in the subject and consult her/him. Don't loose any more time. Act quickly. You just have a consultation and allow the doctor to diagnose what is wrong with you.
Wish you easy recovery and good health.

Did you doctor take xrays to make certain there was nothing else wrong?
My daughter has back pain every day and it is getting increasingly worse because she suffers scoliosis. That is where the spin curves to the wrong direction and she actually has 3 curves to her back. I can't imagine how much pain she must be in!!!
Anyways, we didn't know she has this problem until near the beginning of this year. She has been to doctors for physicals and even did a visual to see if she had this condition as a normal screening done on all patients. But...they missed it. And now that it is ever so noticeable, they can not deny she has it.
So...even if the doctor might not notice something with his own eyes...does not mean there is not something else there that could be the cause. If you are not happy with his diagnoses, get a second opinion. :)

Yeah.. I also feel pain in my back after long hours of sitting and working in front of the computer..but I just put some pain reliever and sleep. I don't know what sciatica is? but I know I don't have that cause if I'm not working whole day sitting in front of the computer I don't feel any pain in my back.

I don't know what is Sciatica. But I recently read an article posted on the notice board of my gym. It said that a backache, often is a result of weak abdomen muscles! I was very surprised but when I read it, it made sense. Our stomach area is like a trunk of a tree - hollow inside surrounded by a wall of muscles on all sides. So, if one side gets weak, the opposite side gets stressed and starts paining. So if the back muscles are aching it means that the abdomen muscles are weak and we need to do exercises to work out those muscles and make them stronger.

my mom has this in her leg from a prior injury.
hot water soaking seems to help her.
other than that, she gets cortizone shots, but i've heard that can stay in the body.

I have had sciatic on and off since I've been about 28 years old. I went to a chiropractor and he said it was down to an old back injury - I rode horses a lot as a kid and fell off a few times. On one occasion the horse was rolling around on top of me..
Because it seems to run down the back of my leg, I do some exercises that eases the pain. I sit flat the floor and spread my feet apart as wide as I can get them, and then I stretch down each leg in turn pushing both arms towards each foot, sliding them down the leg. I do it about 6 times to each leg and the pain does tend to ease. But if you try it, you need to take it very slow with the stretching so as not to over-stretch the muscles.

I used to have back pain a lot and I used to have to go to the chiropractor about once a month for 12 years. Then I discovered yoga!! I have not been back to the chiropractor once since I started doing yoga, nor have I had back pain (except when something happens, like falling down a ski hill!). I do ashtanga or "power" yoga because it is not boring - no stopping to meditate. It takes some disipline and you have to do it frequently, but you get better posture and feel amazing when you practice!! Good luck and I hope your pain goes away!

I have bouts of sciatica from time to time, and a very messed up back including lumbar (lower back). I go to a chiropractor a lot, and ice my lumbar from time to time, 20 minutes at a time with a Ziploc bag full of ice.
I am only 36, and I have this.
My left leg is hurting even now while I am typing this, due to pinched-nerve pain.

I am 35 years old and I have had two back surgeries. The first surgery was when I was 18 and I went bowling and threw my back out and then went to a chiropractor and he messed me up and I was paralyzed. The second back surgery came when I slipped on some ice and fell.
I have back pain every day. But I try to get through every day. I cannot lift anything with any weight. It stinks. I am afraid after a few years I will not be able to work so I am trying to save and pay off bill now just in case I cannot work later in life.

I've had this condition for almost 3 years now, and I live with it everyday.
Most days are fine for me, but the days that I work and the stress is bad, even sleeping is hard for me, but it's the only thing that really helps.
I see a chiropractor quite often for this, usually once per week when I'm working, so I can keep my spine in alignment and not suffer as much from this condition.
But I have to work to pay the bills, so this is something I have to suffer with for a long time to come.
Something like this doesn't go away overnight. It takes many years to overcome.

Augustta, it may not be sciatica! Don't believe before any authentic person say/ declair to you that you have sciatica!
Some time our postures are creating this kind of pain at back and after 2/3 days its over! There are easy ways to deal with: Just don't use soft bed when resting or sleeping. Use hard surface or carpet and lay down on your back with a care.

I suffered from this at one time in my life and i suffered for 6 months with it. I was bedridden the last month it was the worst pain I have ever had in my life1 I went to a few different doctors who would only give me pain pills and tell me to use ice packs which was weird because I thought that heat would help. So sometimes the pain was so bad I would just grab a piece of frozen meat or a frozen bag of veggies out of the fridge LOL and apply them to the pain. It helped a lot but didn't get rid of the pain for ever. What finally did though was go to an Osteopathy Dr. Who treated it with his hands (kind of like a chiropractor/masseuse.) I went to 3 or 4 visits and I have been cured for about 5 years now from the pain. Don't feel bad I guess it can affect one at any age. I was 40 when I got my first pains of it. He did prescribe pain killers for the first 2 visits but I felt much better after the first visit. I hope you look at the link I am enclosing it explains the type of Dr. I am talking about. And you do not have to take your clothes off for this. (Just wear sweats) I swear by this type of Dr. for sciatica pain. I tried many. I hope this is of some help to you.

There is a solution for you problem, and it is a very good one that does not require a doctor. I helped so many people with back pains (I think 80% of the population suffers from this).
If you want to hear more, PM me. I can even help you while you are in Poland...
