The trinity in christian : Father, Son & Holy Ghost is quite similar to Wiccan's Mother, Maiden and Crone. What do you think of them ? Which one copy the other or the trinity in christian is the male version but the same as the wiccan ? What do you think ?

Christianity...(especially in the roman catholic church) DOES copy a lot from Pegan and Wiccian customs even down to the story & birth of christ. you can find similaries in the stories and complare them to other religions and see and obvious copy with only a few things changed. like a story being passed from person to person, the general idea is always the same. AND of course those religions were based FAR before the Christianity suffaced. visit this website: http://www.religioustolerance.org/ it has a lot about other religions as well as christianity since it is one of the top known religions in the world with over 100 seperate divisions with its own seperate beliefes.

oh and just another side fact that i learned. the REASON christians (catholics in general) adopted the same rituals and customs of pegans and wiccans is to get more people to join their church basiclly to convert them in a way and make them think "hey, this is kind of what i'm doing already" if you analize the basic catholic mass you can see handfulls of pegan rituals such as chanting. its actually quite amuzing at time.

I'm totally agree with you !! Have you watched the Mists of Avalon ? I know it's fiction but I think in the end of the movie the Old Religion converted into "New Religion" :)

I will probably get some flack for this- but my understanding is that before christianity, people worshipped the goddess. The patriarchs came and forced christianity on people, slaughtering those who did not convert to their belief system.

that's rather a sensationalist view of how it happened. early religions tended to focus on Goddesses rather than Gods, as life was more obviously from female origins. there was no Golden age of Matriarchy. newer religions focused on Male Deity. when Christianity spread to Pagan countries, in the early days it was live and let live. really they took a very similar approach to the romans when they came to the UK. finding parallels between the native religion and their own and building a relationship based on that. you may know of the roman baths (at Bath) of Aquae Sulis, dedicated to a Roman and a local Goddess with similar attributes. Sul-Minerva. Christianity coming to the UK wasn't really a problem at first. it was only later that conversion became more agressive, but there was no real moment in history when they "came and forced Christianity on people, slaughtering those who would not convert" apart from later on, long after Christianity was well established in Britain.

Just because both the Christian Trinity and the Threefold Goddess have THREE aspects does not mean they necessarily have parallels. Think about the Christian Trinity and what The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit symbolize. Then look at the Maiden, Mother, and Crone. If really look into what they mean and represent, I have a hard time seeing how an easy parallel could be made.

I have to agree with Zupre's previous post. Who's copying whom? In truth I believe most religions are basically different versions of a single one -- though it's impossible to tell which one was first. If you look at the core mythology of each of them there';s striking similarities. Though there are quite a few in christianity and many different branches of paganism, period which seem to stick out alot. My theory is that paganism and christianity are kinda like siblings..came from the same source and just kind of..grea apart somehow. But in alot of ways they're alike -- they grew up together afterall. And like all siblings they have their spats from time to time. They've their differences too. But that's just me thinkin' lol.

Well Wicca is the "newer" version based on the old pagan/witchcraft beliefs..so since pagan beliefs pre-dated Christianity, then I would say the idea of the trinity, but in this case Mother, Maiden, Crone pre-date it as well...the pagan beliefs were more female oriented, not that they didn't recognize the male entity or form of the divine, they did..quite a contrast to the male dominated religions of later times,,no? Oh, and noticed your comment about Mists of Avalon...great movie..have you read the book??

I see the Trinity and the fourfold Goddess as interconnected. The Unnamed One can't be contained in a single gender... how else could s/he relate so well to people from every walk of life? Life-giver = feminine, Protector = masculine. It all works together. Blessed Be
