i went grocery shopping today. my mother gave my daughter a string bean to eat and she choked on it and through up in the grocery store. everyone stands there watching her though up and i'm trying to deal with her and she's in the cart so i can't leave running for a napkin or anything and no one watching offers to grab a bag or napkin or anything. i couldn't beleive they stood there watching this with out saying anything. who would stand there watching a kid throuing up.

Oh no! How awful! I would have helped if I was there. I don't think there is much worse than having your child throwing up in public while everybody else stands around and watches. I could have offered wipes, a spit up cloth (a clean one of course, I always have extras) and on most days a plastic baggy to help "catch" everything. (You don't become a mom of 6 without learning a few tips and tricks along the way!)
I have been in your shoes before though...back in the days when my oldest was still an only child she threw up in a restaurant, repeatedly, at lunch hour...The restaurant had a funny layout so I couldn't escape out the front door or to restroom without squeezing past several tables in either direction. Obviously the last thing I wanted to do was risk having her throw up on someone else or worse yet on their food as we passed. We had used up all the napkins and wipes and cloths I had with us, my ex-hubby was trying to flag down a waitress, there was vomit all over the place and all the other tables just sat there staring at us with that angry "get that kid out of here" look. Believe me as soon as she quit throwing up long enough to leave, we were gone!

Well. If I was there, I would of got you a bag or something. I don't understand why people can just stand there and watch something like that. They should know that you, as the mother wont leave your child in the cart puking, so someone should of helped out a little. I mean it would of been nice.
If that happened to me. I would of left the cart and everything and I would of just left all the puke there and went home.

It's pretty sad that nobody thought to help while she was throwing up like that. Have people forgotten that we all have to help each other? Not to mention the fact that had it had been any one of them, they would have appreciated someone helping them too.
I usually carry baby wipes and/or napkins around with me because you never know when you'll need them, especially with three kids in tow. If I'd been in the store and seen your daughter throwing up, I would definitely have lent a hand.
That some people would stand by and watch without doing anything just amazes me. How ignorant of them!

I don't know what this world is coming to. A real selfish one that is for sure. I can't believe no one even offered to help in any way. People are so self-centered and only worried about themselves. We all need to take this to heart and learn from it that we won't be selfish and self-centered when others need our help. I syour daughter ok now?

I would think that people are stunned at the sudden happening and do not know how to react, or that they think you would be able to handle it.
My little niece once threw out in front of a clinic and I was frantically searching my bag for something for her to throw in. I would not want to wash up the floor :P
People just avoid or stand around helpless. I am not sure if they watch to see what would happen first before helping. I managed to catch the remains though using her skirt.

I think people don't know how to react to these things. I'm sure it must have been embarrassing for you, but hopefully she took no notice. The important thing is that she is okay. She could have choked and if throwing up saved her from that, then it's a very good thing she did.

That's terrible. I'm sorry no one helped you! You are better than me, because I probably would have snapped at someone! Thank goodness your mom was with you and could get you a napkin. Ugh! People can be so selfish and lazy sometimes.

No hon I would have offered to watch your cart so that you could go get her cleaned up.
Or seen if I had a napkin on me. (I have 4 kids so I'm sure I would have had something on me).
That's very frustrating when people just stand around watching a child who may be hurt in anyway.

I would have happily helped if I had been there. Of course I think this feeling comes mostly from the fact that I have a little one of my own. im not saying people with no kids would not have helped though.

Eeewww...sorry about that. I can relate. My son got sick a few years ago while we were shopping. Fortunately...he was able to run into a back room where they kept supplies etc..but he made a mess back there apparently...
I understand how you feel...someone should have offered to help or give you something to help clean up...people have become so cold and uncaring...these days...

wow how could anyoe just stand by watching and not offer any help, quite obviously it would have been too much of a hassle just to offer a napkin or something. im hope your daughter is feeling much better and dont think too much about this incident ya

Goodness, in Canada? That behavior (or rather, lack of) I expect here in the United States.

It is unfortunate that the store employees are not sensitive to such issues.
Would it not be appropriate that the next time when you visit this store, or any other store for that matter, you enquire from the store incharge as to what arrangements they have for dealing with situations like this. If they say they have no arrangemets, then you could tell them that you would prefer to make your purchases from a store which is sensitive to such issues and cares to offer help.

Goodness!!! Not even the people working there assisted you??? What do they think of you and your daughter? A SHOW?
I feel bad for you and your kid :-(
If this can make you feel any better, my mom and my brother who was 6 by then, took a jeepney and my brother threw up on the drivers back! :D They were sitting just behind the driver! :D Since my brother had noodles before that ride, the driver had his hair hanging with noodles! :D and if you havent taken a jeepney, to where they were sitting, you have to scoot your way ACROSS AND BETWEEN all the passengers sitting facing each other, well with you and your kid walkign between them! :-)
