How do you keep squirrels from turning up the garden?

It seems every season I go through the same thing. I know the squirrels are watching me too! I churn up my garden and prepare it with different ingredients to assure a good crop. Then along come the squirrel family digging through the dirt and eating part if not all of whatever it is that I planted. I have read ways to ward them off in the past, but can you enlighten me as to how you handle this situation so that I may learn a new thing or two. Thanks Fran Mc: )
