if you have done so before, how long? did you move everything you owned out of your parents' home? are you still moving things out?
did you do it with a mover? or just with your own car? i heard recently that a colleague still had stuff in her parents' home after 15 years! i must confess i still have stuff at my parents. it's just so troublesome to pack and move!!

Moving took a day but the wrapping took a few days prior to that and I had to engage a mover to do so. Since I'm a foreigner in Singapore, I didn't have the luxury of leaving things at my parent's place ;0

ha ha... for my wife... 4 days.
For me, still have a few crates of stuff left over at my parent's home, waiting for transport to bring them over to my new home.
Had an uncle who has a big lorry, and lots of relatives to help in my moving. My parents-in-law were also a great help with the unpacking. I wouldn't be able to finishing my unpacking so soon if it weren't for their help!
Your friend tuck-kong leh... 15 years and the parents are still holding on to her stuff? If it were my mum, she would have thrown them away eons ago!

I still have stuff stored at my dad's house and I'm 30 with a family of my own. But we live in an apartment and it is too small to keep all our stuff here. My dad lives alone in a 4 bedroom house with a full basement. He has plenty of room to store our extra stuff.
We moved out of my dad's house 2 summers ago when my husband's job changed. We did it ourselves with 3 kids in tow. It took us 3 days to load and unload the U-haul truck. We rented it Monday and started loading the 99 degree heat (suffering from heat exhaustion every half hour and needing a break). We didn't finish until the next morning. Then we drove (my husband in the U-haul with our son and my in the minivan with our 2 daughters) 10 hours to our new apartment. Once there we started unpacking except we lived on the second floor and had to bring everything up a flight of stairs in the heat and humidity (it was over 100 degrees inside the apartment and we had no air conditioning). It was like torture. We finally quit around 2am and I took a shower and collapsed onto the bed. My husband got up around 7 to finish because the truck had to be back by 11am that morning. And we did it--right on time.
Now in a couple of months we are doing the reverse and moving back in with my dad to help him out. Except we have more stuff now, another child and 2 puppies to deal with. My husband already left and took a bunch of boxes with him and was planning on making 1 or 2 more trips over the next couple of months but gas prices are horrible now. It should be fun.
