Do Fairies live at the bottom of your garden?Maybe not anymore, but a recent discovery would suggest that they probably did. What appear to be the mummified remains of a fairy have been discovered in the Derbyshire countryside. The 8 inch remains complete with wings; skin, teeth and flowing red hair have been examined by anthropologists and forensic experts who can confirm that the body is genuine. X-rays of the 'fairy' reveal an anatomically identical skeleton to that of a child. The bones however, are hollow like those of a bird making them particularly light. The puzzling presence of a navel even suggests that the beings reproduce the same as humans despite the absense of reproductive organs. The remains were discovered by a local man, who wishes to remain anonymous, while walking his dog along an old Roman road situated between the villages of Duffield and Belper. I would love to put a link here but I'm not sure if it is allowed, Google the title: Do Fairies live at the bottom of your garden? It will take you to a few websites

I view the uploaded image first of your discussion Annie. I was so curious to see it. I didn't even read your discussion first.~lol But I must admit, I thought of the wings as leaves, because we used to do the same in my Botany class. But it made me wonder because of the structure of its body. Unfortunately, it was not true. But it's a great piece of art. And I don't think he was wrong to lie about it. Because sometimes we need to feel some magic around us. We need to see the world with the eyes of a child. And to believe in fairies, again, in our present time could be so rewarding. I think sometimes, we forget where we come from and that there are things way beyond us that are greater than us. And we forget about them and a lot of other things. Because the genuine purpose of living in harmony with nature and other gets corrupted by greed, hatred, etc. If maybe human beings could embrace their roots once in a while, or nature. The world would be a better place. We'll wish to the Fairies. Maybe?! This would look great on hub Annie. And thank you for this great discussion. (^^,)

Oh sooo true, on the original web page of the author he said he wanted to do a experiment to see if people will fall for it, and the conclusion was that we so desperately still in this day and age, want to believe in fairies. Well in the beginning I was very disappointed to find out that it's not true, so I guess, like all of us we fell boots and all for the experiment and it doesn't make me feel like a sucker but rather a believer!!!!

I'd like to think they do, dancing and scattering their fairy dust and whatnot, but alas if they did they would be captured, tortured and experimented on in these troubled times. I myself have drawn fairies and other magical creatures as it is my hobby at the moment, although I'm going through a drawing demon phase. I remember as a kid I thought I saw a fairy once but my granny said it was a dragonfly...sigh!

Wow Anniedup, here is a very interesting and unusual discussion! Even if I live in a country (Italia) full of Catholic peole, I'm a Pagan person and I love mythology, so you can see that I love stories about fairies too. I have a lot of books and magazines about fairies, but I never heared news like this. I don't know if what you say can be real or not, but I'm sure of one thing: these news are the most charming news I could read on myLot. Thank you!

I am so disappointed that this is not real. I have to tell you that when I saw those wings, I thought they looks like synthetic leaves. I did not see any red hair on the pictures I saw. Funny thing about the missing watermelon, a few days later I taught a Sunday school class of very small children..maybe 4 or 5 years of age. I did not tell the children the watermelon was stolen. During the class this one little girl came up to me and gave me a paper watermelon sticker. I was in awe! That was really something.

Now that you have put my paranoia to bed. Here are the links to the web pages go have a look! Children can be so innocent at that age and they will always try and comfort you or try and make up for your loss, be it a watermelon or a pet. I wish we could keep that innocence and goodwill as adults! http://www.weirddaily.com/?p=8272 http://daveizoid.wordpress.com/2007/04/03/do-fairies-live-at-the-bottom-of-your-garden/ http://www.ordbrighideach.org/nuke/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=11

I see the red hair now. The fact that it was a watermelon sticker just seemed special. Yes, if adults could keep that in them...what a world we would be.

I don't know about the bottom of the garden. But fairies over here are above our roof. They come out at night and fly high above in the sky. During daytime they hang upside down on trees. They eat fruits and sometimes honey from flowers. We also call them Bats.

This below is an excerpt from the website where the story began. "Alas the fairy is fake but my interest and belief has allowed me to create a work of art that is convincing and magical. I was also interested to see if fairy folklore is still a valid belief in modern society and I am pleased to say that yes it is! I have had more response from believers than I ever thought possible. As well as an artist I am also a magician and you have been my fantastic audience. That spark of magic ignited your imagination and made your day more memorable and exciting. I believe fairies to be Earth spirits rather than physical beings so my performance was slightly flawed. The question stills begs to answered though, are they made of flesh and blood like you and I?" I knew it would not be true because I also believe fairies to be more ethereal and not of the physical world and are seen by a special few who have the ability to see them. Such a beautiful and magical experience that would be. I'm hoping the world to come will be a place for fairies and unicorns and magical things. I think the closest we come to fairies in the garden are elementals. Like beings of the flowers and waterfalls and rocks and plants. Have you ever been to a special place and felt how beautiful it is. You feel held and you don't want to leave. Nature Spirits can be such wonderful presences. Thanks Annie.

I would love to believe this to be true. I think though with so much industrialization and hi tech living, that beings so etherial and delicate like fairies could not co exist with such a fast paced and techno people as us. In olden times, people would take time to ponder and commune with nature. Now a lot of us in the big cities don't even have time to breath, forget about trying to communicate with fairies. I think it is wonderful though that such lovely little creatures could exist. I do know of some photographs having been taken of fairies but this is the first time I am hearing of actual remains being found.

I think we are permitted to put up links as long as they are not money making. Unless those rules have changed. I cannot keep up with them. This is awesome. The link I found was excellent! It shows all these pictures. That is so neat. I do not have a garden anymore. However, when I did, someone stole my first baby watermelon. I wonder just what a fairy can do. I cannot see them stilling fruit. Ten stars for this discussion. More More More!!!!

I have the cat by the tail man, I can get paranoid quickly. I went back to the rules and they encourage us to put links, but you are right as long as it's not pay sites, or your own site. You are permitted to refer to your own site only on your home page. Back to the fairy, yes it is a big hoax the man who started it wanted to show how desperate people want to believe in fairies and to get alot of traffic to his website! But nevertheless I also believe in them, that is why I don't like to spray pesticide's.:DD Oh someone stole your watermelon! lol! no can't be our fairy friends
