Ragging in colleges in India is getting worse every year

India's highest court has set a price for ragging - expulsion and no future college. It has made registration of FIR by police mandatory if seniors harass freshers. These strictest measures have been taken by the court in view of many deaths in the past as seniors went too far in ragging freshers. More detailed measures will follow. I am very happy on this development.

A great step by the supreme court indeed. Ragging has always been one of the serious offences which was given little attention. We have seen how people are subjected to severe mental trauma when they join college. Some of these stories make headlines while a thousand others are just lost. Many juniors are still afraid of discussing these matters with anybody. I hope this step will help in creating a healthier environment in colleges.

A long standing problem, with SC orders, will hopefully be solved now. I am also very happy on this development.

It is a very good judgement. All concerned people and organizations should cooperate in making ragging a thing of the past. Parent should put some sense in the mind of their wards if they are senior. Hodtel wardens should be pro-active. College administration should come out in oprn against ragging. Police should enforce SC orders with all sincerity and honesty.
