Why not just cut the cable?

So some friends of mine asked this question and I thought it was an interesting one. The cable leads to the underwater station where the signal is being jammed. Assuming it is an electrical or communications cable, then why not just cut it? If it electrical, the station loses power and the ability to jam the signal. If communications cable then cutting it will also stop it from interferring with French woman's message?
To easy of a plot line and not enough drama if they just cut it? What do you think?

I would also be wondering what you could find on an island to cut that kind of a cable with lol. That thing is huge! It didnt really look like an electrical feed to me (but im no electrician) I thought it was more of a tether to help find the way to shore and from shore to the station.

Yeah, that's the first thing I thought of--it's a lot easier than swimming underwater and into the hatch and shutting off the switch, etc. etc.
But I guess we should assume that the underwater station has some kind of back-up power source, so that the station and its jamming signal would keep operating if the cable was cut, either intentionally or by a boat running into it or a shark chewing into it.

ya, I don't think so. The cable is not the key part. The center of the communication is the underwater station. if the cable was cut, it only infulences the communication of " the others" with outside world. but it does not affect the underwater station. I don't think the cable is to supply power for station, the underwater station must have its own power source, and it works independently from other bases of "the others". So the only way to jam the signal is to turn off the switch in the station.
have a great day!!

en,I think the underwater station is the communication center of "the others". In the underwater station, there must be some radars which is the only way for this island to commumincate with outside world. so the cable is connected to other places where "the others" work and live. Ben said that they've lost the communication with outside world after the hatch was destoryed. I think it is because something was wrong after that accident. so when Charlie entered the underwater station, two of "the others" came out, maybe they came here to fix it.
There are too many puzzles in Lost, but the story moves on so slowly in season 3.
have a good day!

That would be far too easy! Besides it had to show how Desmond was going to let Charlie die- Charlie was going to go down regardless once Desmond told him of the premonition- and Claire and Aaron being saved. I can't wait to see what happens to Charlie now- I don't think they will kill him off- Just torture him for a bit then he will end up with the "others"

hah.... no kiddin' SOmetimes out Losties may over think some things. Of course who knows with this island. If they cut the cable, they may cause some weird detination somewhere.
