People make excuses for their decisions by saying, "I had no choice". This just isn't so.
What they are really saying is, "The consequences for the decision I made were more acceptable to me than those that would come with the alternatives.
The fact is, everyone has choices to make in life. Everyone lives out the benefits and concequences of the choices they make.
In reality, when people complain that they had no choice, they are just saying, "I wanted the benefits, but not the consequences".

In most cases I believe it to be true that in actuality we are saying as you said that the consequences for the decisions we make are more acceptable to us than those that would come with the alternatives, but at the same time, sometimes when people come into unfortunate situations, I don't think it is fair to scorn them or look down upon them, since most would do the same if they were in their shoes.

I'm not looking down on anyone, merely making an observation about human nature.

I have heard this excuse many times while I was a Corrections Officer.
When those inmates would talk about why they did the things that got them locked up they would say things like "I had no choice", and "I did what I had to do".
They also said "I was framed" a lot too.
We are faced with choices everyday, and always have to weigh the advantages against the consequences.
Mostly the choices are minor, such as what to eat and where, what to watch and so one.
Sometimes the choices are more serious, but they are always at our own discretion and responsibility.
To blame others for the choices we make is to show that we can't face the responsibility for the choices we make.
People must realize that they are the only ones responsible to face the consequences of their decisions, and they also have to learn to accept that responsibility.

True, we are faced with choices, but we rarely actually weigh the pros and cons. Normally we take the choice we want the most and complain if the unintended consequences get the best of us.

Bad circumstances are not reson for making bad choices and leading poor life....this is a quot from a book You can Win. about excuse i would like to say there is always another door but what we need to keep our eyes open if somew one is saying that he had no choice it means he is defending him self from what? his own growth. i think one should be postive minded ,optimistic nad action taker so as to grow in life.
